jbj viper question

I just got a viper 150w hqi the other day. I was wondering how high off the water should the lamp be? Just a couple of inches or like 8-10 inches off?

i would start at peak height then slowly lower it over time depending on corals.

I keep my Viper about 4" above the water. This seems to be high enough to keep it from getting much salt spray and low enough to get maximum effect from the bulb. I keep a fan blowing between the fixture and the water surface so heat is not a problem.
