I think you should try and pet that mantis shrimp. Nothing bad will happen I promise. Also, try and get a good picture of him, they are beautiful animals.

...did I miss the mantis? Cause I only saw that gorgeous blue spotted goby?

Ah I don't have a good photo of the mantis yet. I moved my blue spot to the 28 gallon so that the mantis won't eat the goby. I have to get some photos taken to post them up.

It's a smasher type and apparently they have the fastest feeding strike in the world. They punch so fast that they create two punches in one; the actual strike and then the shockwave.

This isn't my mantis but the same type.

Very cool Tim! I love mantis shrimp. I tried to get my wife to let me pull the trigger on a peacock setup but couldnt get the approval on a second tank.

What I find fascinating about them is they can seen the most amount of the light spectrum than we can. If I remember correctly they can see into the infrared.

Ultraspectrum vision. It's very awesome the way they look at YOU from inside the tank. Very interactive. I am uploading some photos now, but he isn't in any of them. He currently is about 3 inches long.

What's that saying...pretty but deadly or something like that, lol. I'd be hysterical if I found one of those in my tank. I respect you for sparing it's life, lol.

I just bought a rock and he was inside of it. He ate a couple of my fish... (firefish). So he now lives in the 12 gallon as the sole inhabitant. (well there are some snails and hermits, but they are clean up/food crew)

It's a marvelous pet and he watches ME! I try to catch him on video but I haven't staged any food on a stick yet. (My better camera drains normal batteries before a decent video can be shot - I have to find another rechargeable one)

Well here some photos! I didn't clean the walls of the tank so the photos aren't all that great. Some photos have been modified to make up for my lack of camera skill. The colors are close, but not exact.

My mantis shrimp hates the flash and hides whenever it seems my camera. LOL!
