It all really depends on what you want to keep. It is possible to set a tank up from scratch a little cheaper and you may even end up with more lighting. I bought a 12 DX because I really like the looks of the Nanocubes and have always admired cube tanks. Decide what you may want to put in the tank and then see if its current lighting will support it without doing alot of modifications and use that information to make an informed decision. Can somone tell me why you would buy a tank that you have to MOD to make it better for the setup you want? They are cool tanks, don't get me wrong. Just seems like alot of work to do for something that is pretty pricey.

I think for different people it's different things.

The things that I like about them are that they're very clean looking. Everything is inside the tank. The only way to get the same look with any other tank is to drill it, and then you're talking a stand as well. These things can just be put on a table or shelf. There's also something fun about taking something and customizing it. Look at all the cars that people do this with. So I see the attraction. The main thing I really don't like about them, and what will keep me from getting one is the curved glass on the front. It's kind of ironic since my work tank is a 6g minibow.

Modify? My nano 12 has three lights, two fans, and a filter. Came like that from the lfs. Nothing easier. I love it more than my girlfriend. It's beautiful, takes about the same maintenance, and never bitches. Plus, my tank never asks me to buy it something. I just do it because I want to.
