JBJ 28G HQI

So it's finally here. I purchased this tank to downsize my 90 gallon due to my move into a condo. I choose this tank due to the integrated HQI and my experience with the smaller cubes. My hopes are to not have to modify this too much. I may invest in a chiller (only summer will tell), upgrade the pumps, install ATO, and add my auto two part doser. But beyond that I want to see how this tank handles.

150 watt 14K bulb with 4 blue LED moon lights. It will have 3-4 inches araganite pink fiji live sand and I will select LR from my 90 gallon to fill it to my desire.

I don't know if I will mod in a fuge yet. Time will tell.

Inhabitants will be from my 90G:
Blue spot jawfish
Skunk cleaner shrimp
2 peppermint shrimp
GBTA (We'll see how it behaves, I may have to donate this to the LFS if it won't stay put)

Corals:

Crocea clam
Derasa clam
birdsnest coral
frogspawn coral
Hammer coral
Bubble coral
Trumpet coral
Plate coral
Various ricordia
Monticap coral
Clove polyps

I also plan to pick up a few frags of zoas with striking colors and round out the clams with a maxima.

Enough chat here are some shots. (the beer can is my room mates and I used it for size reference - I prefer *real* beer :wlift ) :lol3:

Hey Tim I have the same tank up and running for a little over a year and I think your going to like it!
I have not made any mods to my tank at all and everything "knock on wood" is going fine!
I have 4 fish and 16 corals in the tank and the coral are growing great I am going to add the Nanotuners actinic lighting mod to my tank in the near future as my corals grow great but they don't have the color that I would like.
As for the chiller I am planning on added one this summer last summer it was okay with a fan over the back chambers but temp variation was as much as 3 degrees.

Nice coloration! In the first picture what is that top center? Star looking item?

Well, I did it. I was torn between the current usa prime 1/15th chiller and the JBJ mini artica 1/15th chiller. Well, I just bought the artica as the prime chiller was stating it needs 2 foot by 2 foot open air for cooling. Plus I got a good deal on it too.

Oh that is a snail if memory serves the LFS said it was a Ninja Snail anyway they looked cool!
If you can share where did you get the deal on the chiller?

Local deal... no real help as it was the last one too. It's one of the older (new in box though) mini articas with the non-digital controller ( and thus the possibility of not being accurate ) but I saved enough to afford the digital controller upgrade if need be. My future investment is more than likely a quality controller that will be able to control most everything. (like all of my tanks.... )

Sigh, tax returns are evil - they only make you THINK you have money...

Well I finally broke down and bought a chiller JBJ nano artica (got a good deal on a new one) and hooked it up Sat and OMG it works great I have yet to add a drop of water to the tank I did have to reset the thermostat as it was off and the tank was geting to cold.
Also I ordered the atenic upgrade from nano Tuners for my hood waiting for it to arrive.
Can you spell $$$$ progress!

LOL I also added in a chiller (mini artica, bought the non digital (dang word filter) version - they sent me the digital one) and also added a reef keeper 2. I have the actinic upgrade from nanocustoms.com but haven't installed it yet. I don't like my rock work on top as it is just a bunch of rubble. I am still looking for the perfect piece to put there and then all that rubble is going in the back of the tank. Here are the pics. I didn't do anything fancy like clean or what have you and some pictures have been modified to try and show the true colors.

ORA birdsnest. I don't know the scientific name though. I bought it as a tiny frag and now it's massive! (frag time I think)

On a major side not I removed pretty much all my LPS coral from this tank.

All that coral was from my 90 gallon tank and it had gotten quite large. Either my bubbles or frogspawns hit that green acro frag with a sweeper tentacle and killed it. I donated all my other corals to the LFS for a bit of store credit (they will be selling them cheap so some local reefer will hit a jack pot). They were all healthy specimens but I didn't get the best colored ones due to cost.
