Hi. I have a jbj dx 12g and was wondering if there is a way to keep a jawfish in it. My sand bed is only an 1 inch thick. Is the only way to make one part 6 inches?

1" really isn't deep enough.

3-4" would probably be doable. Make sure that there is larger chunks of rock. They prefer the larger crushed coral to fine sand. You can just take a small piece of LR rubble and smash it up with hammer. They use the larger pieces to shore up their burrows, and will often have a piece as a sort of door that they can block the entrance at night.

It's steady, but it's got a much lower membership than many of the other boards, so some days it's pretty slow. That has good points and bad points. people tend to be a bit more polite and friendly the smaller the board is. But it may take a bit longer to get questions answered if folks are working or something.

that's why the admin said "just kidding" you weren't really suppose to ask him.....he's an ass. a mr. thinks-he-knows-it-all

Would you happen to have the question you asked, and the response he said back to you? Quote it on here.....would be great for laughs.

I've had one in a 3 to 4 inch sand bed with crushed coral and they do fine in them (for my 37 gallon tank). I've experienced that they sometimes create more than 1 burrow/hole and move back and forth among them. Since they like popping up and down in their burrows usually in a vertical angle, I might be concerned with them in a 1inch sand bed since their body length is more than 2 inches.

Yeah, I agree. 2-3" sandbed would prob. be ideal.

Katsmooth, I was kidding about contacting that guy. It was an inside joke concerning some experiences folks on this forum have had with him in the past. Sorry if you really did contact him.
