Pretty good turnout our first chat...we talked about shrimp, urchins, goby/pistol shrimp combos and many other interesting topics. I also managed to get some feedback concerning upcoming contests. Thanks for everyone who contributed. Here is a recap 15 minutes at a time.

[djconn] 8:10 pm: it was interesting how most of the symbiotic animals features lived in the ocean

[dragon79] 8:10 pm: where both the goby and pistol shrimp can retreat and hide

[skipm] 8:10 pm: I have a hi finned red banded gobie paired with a randalls pistol, they are neaqt to watch
[dragon79] 8:10 pm: I think so Calsun, the only thing is that you see them when they are hungry

[dragon79] 8:11 pm: the goby mostly ventures to get food and brings it back to the lair

[Calsun] 8:11 pm: should the depth of substrate be around 2 inches
[dragon79] 8:11 pm: the pistol uses it's long antenna to feel for the goby so it knows it's near, and knows it
way if it decides to leave the hole.

[Calsun] 8:12 pm: my LFS never have hi finned gobies in stock and thats kind of weird since I live in Florida of all
places

burrow where I may never really see it
[djconn] 8:12 pm: yeah, so i guess the only bad thing about the goby/pistol pair is that you won't see the pistol
shrimp too often correct?

about 1/2 inch long. I see it sometimes but i'd still like to get a 'real' pair

with what I have now

[skipm] 8:22 pm: they are bulldozers knocking stuff over and small things get hung on their spines. Thay can eat LR
and definately eat coralline.

[skipm] 8:24 pm: I have 2 pencil urchins that seem okay but not as good at getting rid of the hairalgae as the 2 short
spined urchins in the other tank, I also have a purple urchin with the shortspined ones

[skipm] 8:25 pm: the tanks they are in are 75 and 92 gallons so they have more room and don't knock as much over

[skipm] 8:28 pm: Thats right, the short spines I have are about 2-2 1/4" diameter not including the spines
[drty811] 8:29 pm: never did any research on them, impulse buy cause of its looks
[skipm] 8:29 pm: the pencil urchins are about 1 3/4" less spines
[djconn] 8:29 pm: so if you live in the boonies drty811, how long is a trip to the LFS?
[sadielynn] 8:30 pm: while we are on the subject of heat our tank toped at 83.3 degrees should I be worried bout the
shrimp

here and everything was okay...maybe consider adding another fan.

on top of it?

inexpensive and hardy and roams around my tanks all day.

[djconn] 8:41 pm: ive had a pair together for about a year and a half (or even longer) and they are doing great

based on where they live. I usually ask what a person paid for a particular coral and I might come off as being too
nosy sometime but oh well...

and you'd be surprised how often they go for it. you can't get a deal unless you ask is the moral i guess
[skipm] 8:47 pm: there is a LFS near me that charges $45-$60 for a cleaner shrimp. I guess its no wonder I only
buy frozen food there

it was very unique..I never figured out it's diet

like crazy, they are supposed to be great breeders too but I only have 1.
