Intergrated Chiller Assist...

Hey Reefers,

I've been dormant almost all winter and now it's summer and I finally got my ICA units from Chris and I'm ready to share pics and installation on my MikeGuerrero series tank.

I purchased two sets of ICA units since I own two 12 gallon cubes both of which are upgraded, first one being MikeGuerrero and the second one being Larnie edition.

I didn't have any problems following the directions on his thread and found myself actually having fun modding my hood.

The hardest part was actually getting the 1/2 tube to fit without kinking over and blocking flow. I had to re-do my entire refuge, pulling out all the rubble and fitting the tubbing in a circle, thus preventing any kinking. Placing the rubble back in was no problem.

Taking pictures was the funnest. Here they are in the sequence in which I began. I haven't done the larnie edition tank, thats tommorrow. It will be nice to see what the difference is between the two in bring the temps done.

Remember that one is 115 watts total power and the other is 92 watts of juice.

Its hard to view your pictures because I think they are linked wrong. You gotta copy/paste.

Anyways, it looks really nice. How does it work so far?

Here are some early test with the intergrated chiller assist. I took these pics at 7:39 am after only running the ICA since 11 pm when I connected it.

I lowered my EBER jagger heater to 71 degrees, allowing the ICA to reach a lower temp. This will give the ICA a fair chance to fight the blast of 115 watts all day.

The first reading is my outside/inside temp of the living room. I left the door open and window open allowing my Condo to become very cold, my wife was upset with me, but I said it's for you reefers and it's only for 1 night.

73.3 temp is my mikeguerrero tank with the ICA unit. 77.7 is the larnie tank in my bedroom and the last temp is my pico tank in the living room with a temp of 77.7.

For some reason this site is not posting my pics and at nano-reef and reefcentral they are okay.

I'll have to aske DJconn if I'm doing somethng wrong. I always post with tinypics and never had any problem.

Wow.. a big difference. Did not realize just how much that chiller could drop the temp.

I think the picture issue is there are no *.JPG or *.GIF endings. Board doesn't know what to do with them. Weird.

Here are the results for 2pm temps and then at 4pm. Looks like Chris has hit another milestone with his ICA.

For all that remember my tank back in January 05 with my SPS corals, here I am with zero losses in any corals, that includes my SPS. That's good news for any out there that thought they couldn't do it PC lighting.

Mikey:

Host pictures using "http://xs.to/"

Identical to tinypic. Apparently tiny pic is having their problems. I'll host another pic for you, but you need to start doing that otherwise you'll be loading up jibberish.

Mike's SPS tank

Congrats Mike. Looks good, but you still have a lot of algae. Get some black turbos, Ever since i picked up a few, they are just such hard workers, they have cleared out sandras back end of the nano, and doing wonders on the glass. Best of luck.

Sugar,

What does a fighting conch look like? Are they reef safe? They sound mean due to the name? Are they aggressive?

Last night I installed the ICA in my larnie edition tank which is in the bedroom. This morning the temp was all the way down to 72 degrees and all the animals and corals looked fine.

I did my water changes and changed out the chemi-pures, I cannot believe it's already been 6 months.

I wonder with the colder water will the slime aglae still persist as bad as when my tank is warmer?

I want to talk to incysor and ask him about his light period on his tanks because I'm always at work and never see my tanks untill 7pm. I do get a glimpse of them in the morning since I start work at 10 am.

Incysor, do you like your photoperiod? Does it change in the weekends?

Here's my photoperiods. I work from about 8am to 6pm so most of my tanks are dark for most of the day so that I can enjoy or work on them when I get home for at least a few hours. I don't change the photoperiods for the weekends.

1pm
96w PC lights on 40g come on

2pm
65w PC lights on 25 come on
110w VHO lamps on 75 come on

5pm 175w MH light on 75g comes on

9pm 175w MH light on 75g goes off

10pm
110w VHO lamps on 75g go off
65w PC lights on 25 go off

11pm
96w PC lights on 40g go off

As for my work nano:
9am 32w PC lights go on
8pm 32w PC lights go off.

:)

I dont have my lights on nearly as long. I have them on from 12pm (my actinic goes on) 1pm, my pcs go on "54 watts", they stay on until 8pm", then at 9pm the actinics go off. I have very low algae, and everything is staying clean. sand is crystal clean. I even have a sand sifter star in there stirring things up.

As for the fighting conch, it's like a type of snail I believe, from what I have seen. here is a link to general info on them. should do wonders for your tank. Buy just one for each tank

24 gal. Nano Cube Filtration

Hi everyone! I'm Jose from Califormia, I have 24 gal. cube that has been running for 2 months now. Do I need a protein Skimmer if I do the 10% water chage every week? Right now the only filtration on my tank is a hang on back mud filter with calurpa algae. Every thing on the tank looks healthy. My consern is that I'm having that ugly film of waste forming on the surface of the water. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks! I will post some pics for you guys to see.

Current setup:

24gal. JBJ Nano Cube
25pnds Live rock
20 pnds of live sand
Mud filter with 5 pnds of mud and algae
Lighting 250 watts of Metal Halide 14,000 k

Water Quality:

Nitrite @0
Nitrate@0
Ammonia@0
Water temp. 72 -77 fluctuation between day and night.
