Interesting Fish Behaviour for a 12g

Hi,

Pertaining to my hopeful setup of a 38cm cube tank, ive gotten ahead of myself and have started thinking bout fish for the nano. I am very interested in the concept of interesting pair behaviour and other interesting behaviour in general. Anyone got any ideas on personality filled fish to be the stars of the tank?

I was originally thinking of getting a pair of clowns (either onyx percs or pink skunks or clarkiis) but only if they will host something. I would get an anemone if there were any reasonably priced carpets for sale here in AU. Btw, please note that at least half the possible fish suggested by you guys would be not possible - despite being 4hours from one of the best reefs in the world, there isnt much in the way of variety.

My second thought was to have a pair of firefish. Pretty but not much in the way of interesting behaviour. Would go for a shrimp/goby pair but, again, not available here. Sigh.

Any ideas people?

Since you're getting along well with the folks at your LFS, I'd ask them if they'd be willing to special order you in a shimp/goby pair. If that's a no-go, maybe you could get a copy of their normal order list, that way we could get a better idea of what's available for you to choose from.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion incysor, ive tried to order stuff in; but its kinda hard. LFS here dont get enough from suppliers to know what will be available throughout the month. They get a list on wednesday every fortnight on whats available. So far, in the 15+years of operating, the LFS has never seen a shrimp/goby pair. Even considered 'normal' things arent always available (eg oscellaris clowns, bicolour blennies and other LFS staples)

Usually a sit and wait game. But at least i know what can generally have a chance of coming in. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

PS, biocellatus signal goby pairs come in reasonably freqently. Anyone observe anything interesting with these guys?

I have a tank of your description , 38cm*38*35 its like 13 g.

I host only one fish because I don't have the guts to put another one , its a royal gramma, a very nice fish , don't hide and adds nice coloration to the tank.

They've got a horrible survival rate even in larger aquariums. If you can find a pair that will actively hit on flake/frozen/prepared you have a better chance. Normally they won't touch it, and get all their food by sifting algae/small critters out of the sandbed. But they're active enough to go through a regular tank in a month or two and then they starve. In a nano it would be much quicker.
