Im waiting for my rocks to get coraline so the zoas will stand out more. Zoas looked alot better under 20k Mh at the LFS so im lookin for an upgrade. And if any area reefers have any frags, lemme kno.

Wow. Nice looking tank! Its off to a good start. Where have to been getting all of those zoanthid frags? The purple ones (5th down) are awesome. I'm always looking to trade some frags.

Is that a Fluvial surface skimmer in you tank? How is it working? It doesn't ever just lose its suction and start bobbing all over the place?

All my frags came from city pets or aquatic center. Its an aquaclear surface skimmer and i dont have a problem with it losing suction. Just wen a snail gets on it and weighs the floating part down.

Excellent tank! I agree - those zoo frags are just spectacular. I love looking for unusual color morphs. You've got some great ones!

I've got the fluval version of the overflow on the work tank attachted to a modified skilter, and I put the sea clear version on my wife's 10gal, attachted to a seaclear 500 that's being used as a fuge. They both seem to do fine.

I like my 96W, but I m looking for a 70W MH 20k to get better coloring out of my zoas. Also want to keep a small clam too.

What type of clam are you looking to keep? Croceas will do fine under the 96w. Espcecially in a 10gal tank due to the fact that they're shallow.

I had a crocea for over a year that showed a small amount of growth under a 65w 50/50 pc, in my 55. Actually the color improved dramatically in the first 2-3 months after I got it. Some of your zoos certainly may color up more under the MH, but some may not. My boss has MH lights in his 180 tank at home, and he's had several zoos that were happier and more colorful under the 96w in his 18gal office tank. We both noticed that the 96w powerquads actinic seems to be kind of weak. I may look into adding another actinic pc lamp to help the colors balance out a bit better.

I researched on crocea and they said a MH is a must for it. Some ppl recommend derasa or squamous clams, but either way, my tank is way too young for it.

Yep I did a bunch of research on them as well, and hit all the forums on all the major boards, and I kept hearing MH was necessary. However in my actual observation it just isn't true. I've seen or kept croceas, and t. maximas under pc lights. I posted pics of mine on here at one point. DJ Conn has his clam under pc's, I just posted pics of my bosses 18gal tank that has a nice crocea in it, and his tank is quite a bit deeper than a 10gal tank and is lit by a 96W powerquad.

I'm not trying to talk you out of MH if that's what you want to do, I'm just pointing out that what you described as your goals don't really require the upgrade.

Well main reason I want to go for the MH is not bc of the clams. Its after seeing how the zoa frags looked under Kenny's 20k lighting on his frag tank versus how they look under PCs wen I bought them. The greens were more greener and yellows showed alot better. I d never kept a clam, so its something I want to try in the future.

Yep, the 20k's are very blue, and bring out a lot of color in many corals.
What wattage MH are you planning on putting over your tank? I looked all over trying to find a 20k bulb in 175W and couldn't find one.
