Hi Guys,

I just got my new Nanocustoms 12G Nano cube. I had a few problems lost my extra set of lights that I ordered and one light I will not fire up in the tank after it was shipped. My chiller does not seem to work.

But I am happy, it is great over 100 watts in a 12G tank. :lol3:

I have a refuge light too and a R2 moon light.

There does not seem to be that much flow I am going to order 2 powerheads. I was thinking of Maxi-jet 400's? What you guys think?

I am going to try and pick up 8lbs of LR tomorrow. :bouncing:

One more question is 100 watts of PC over 12 G (well more like 8G of watter) be  enoght for Clams and a some Acropora sp.? I know SPS grows better with MH but I would like to put some in my tank someday.

Thanks,

Eric

I personally wouldnt do any SPS or clams in a nanocube... stability (temp, pH, Ca, Alk, etc) being the main reason. The other is that most SPS would do best with a turnover of around 60x-80x per hour... that would be about 720+gph. A third being that SPS go through alot of chemical warfare... the closer they are to each other, the worse it could be.

Although you have ~100 watts of light on the 12 nc, you have to remember that PC's dont put out nearly as many lumens as T5HO's or MH. That, along with the fact that the lamps are somewhat cramped into the nanocube hood which doesnt allow for optimum reflective..umm...ness.

Overall I like www.nanotuners.com's work and that lighting will do great with zoas/palys, calaustrea, acans, micros, blastos, etc.

I would suggest to you that you research SPS and clams... check out some books... any authored by Anthony Calfo, Eric Borneman, Ron Shimek and a few others would be great. Also, you may want to check out this... http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/for ... y.php?f=30 I like that site and www.marinedepot.com/forums because you can speak directly to som eof the biggest "experts" in our hobby.

As far as the powerheads go, I would suggest the largest one that you can fit back in the return chamber... I believe I have heard that a MJ900 or even a MJ1200 may fit. then one or two smaller ones in the tank. Flow is a very close second to lighting in a reef tank and often doesnt get nearly as much attention as light.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info Jesse,

I will try and stay with just LPS but I still plan on putting a clam in the tank after it has been up for a long time.

I orded 3 Maxi Jet 400's today. Those with the built in pump will give me over 400GPH and if it too much I can pull one out.

Or you could get a wave maker/timer setup and have all the pumps come on randomly so that only 2 or three are ever on at once... just an idea.

I am thinking of that  What is the best system to get?

Thanks,

Eric
