How deep a sand bed

It depends on how big the tank is and what you want to stock inside. I for example have 120 pounds of live sound in my 72 gallon reef ready tank. Thats about 3 inches of sand throughout the entire tank.

Typically 1-3 inches in a nano. DSB's aren't effective in a nano and take up too much valuable real estate. Basically it just depends on how you want it to look. I have about 1/2" in my 2.5 gallon tank and about 1 1/2" in my 30 cube.

my LFS has a 270gal tank just for live sand. so you can buy any amount or weight you want. makes life alot easier when setting up small tanks. when you buy sand they add the same amount back. the water cycles through all there systems.

That's pretty cool. I'm sure I can buy it from the lfs's here as well, but I like the look of the CaribSea SeaFlor Special Reef sand in particular and I don't know if I'd get that large of a grain size. I will get some live sand for seeding anyway.

I run one to two inches in my nanos. Just a matter of taste I guess.

Sean - just curious but how did you hear about Nanotank.com? I used to live in Houston and was wondering if you might have seen a business card somewhere.

I did an internet search, but I know it was mentioned on the marshreef.com site before too.

I've been pretty active there but after a recent plumbing episode
(H20+floor=PO'd wife and ruined carpet) I decided to give up my 75 gallon and began looking into nanos. This site has been the best resource for information.

A week ago I had no idea just how many options there were with nanos and now I'm waiting on my nanocustoms 6G nanocube to arrive. :D

I'm going to try and get out tomorrow or Wednesday and pick up the sand and Catalina Seawater. Then I'll just have to make up my mind on the LR. I'm now leaning toward the PA nano rock package. I've never been thrilled with any of the LR the local stores carry.
