Thanks guys.
Here is a pic of the seaweed
And here is a pic of the complete tank 7 days after first setting it up.

There is no algae on the glass yet.
Is that usual.

I'm not 100% sure of the seaweed, but I believe it's Chaetomorpha.
Correct me if you think otherwise.

Also, how do you post up a picture directly without having to lazy link?
Oh and bear in mind the pictures are with a cell phone camera so there not that great.

you just post the image code instead like this.

It looks like that is Chaeto... and a little something else. Chaeto is usually just stringy... That leafy stuff is something else.. I think.

I've started two tank and got algae on the glass within the first two weeks of the set up..... my buddy just started his first and really hasn't had too much. It's not something you should worry about

i read the article before and it seemed like they didn't really know if distilled water is/was ok.
I'll think i'll be fine though.

how long do you think I should let it cycle before adding anything?

Live rock and sand were from a 55 gallon tank and are already cured.

That is the question that there really is no answer to. I think the answer should be when the cycle is complete. Which means ammonia =0 nitrites=0 and nitrates=0. however zoos will do fine before that is complete. I'd say wait another week or so do a water change and then add some stuff. make sure you water filter doesn't need cleaned or replaced so that your getting good pure water. baby's crying gottago.

Another question:
Is the sand bed too shallow?
Like should I add more or just keep it the way it is?

Also what do you recommend that I should add first?
Just a clean-up crew, or could i go for some coral?

depends what you want out of your sand bed. If you want it to contribute to denitrification then you will need atleast 3-4" of sand. Otherwise you can add as much or as little as you want.

As for how long to wait to add anything, be sure that you have completed your cycle and no sooner. Things can happen and you could end up with another ammonia spike before it is finished and it would wipe out anything that you placed in the tank. Patience in this hobby will save you a ton of money and heartache.

Hi, I have a 2 1/2 pico, been up and running for over 1 year. I have never used any suppliments, I think your wasting your money and eventually as someone before me said your tank is going to crash. If you use a good quality salt that has all the trace elements and calcium in it (provided you do water changes regularly) I use Oceanic, a good quality salt, I have had very good luck with it and I would not change. your tank will be fine. A protien skimmer would be overkill, water changes will be pleenty. I do appx 3/4g weekly. I have 18 watts of pc lighting 50/50. I keep star polyps, palays, zoas, mushrooms, sun polyps and a glown goby. Here's a couple shots of my tank a few weeks ago. : )
