Could the green algea be caulerpa scalpelliformis with the red being asparagopsis taxiformis? Not sure how to post links, but I could the pictures that looked close over in Saltcorner.

What I really want to know is this 'bad' or not?

In the first picture the green piece on the right was nothing when I put this into my tank and it litterally grew overnight! Everything else seems to be maintaining it's current size. Although the green piece on the left has been bleaching a little, not sure why but it still seems to be healthy.

Just copy and paste any links that way whoever from wherever gets credit for the orgional post/information.

Thanks!!

They both look like varieties of macro I've seen in people's fuges. The green one looks like caulerpa to me. I don't know what the red one is called. I'd try moving that rock over into the sandbed by itself until you move it into your sump. By all reports caulerpa is a very fast grower, and is a pain once it gets into your display tank, unless you've got tangs or other grazers that can keep it in check.

the green one is halimeda. i don't know the name of the red one but it is commonly called red turf algae. both are very common on florida live rock.

the halimeda is a calcarous algae, and will die in tanks w/ low calcium values.

edit: looking more closely at the pic of the red, you also have some red lettuce algae growing with the turf algae. i don't know the species name of that algae either, but again it is common on florida LR.

Thanks! My CA levels are fine right now so that would explain some of the rapid growth, I do plan on putting it in a fuge at some point. I may put it down on the sand just to keep it off my rock per incisors suggestion. Thanks everyone!

I have thered in mine, i love it grows at a good rate and dosnt take over plus my fish and crabs like to munch on it ocasionally, i dont have a clue on the green, sorry no names

Phishcy,

The bottom red growth is a macro algae, I have it on two of my rocks. It doesn't grow too quickly but it does keep it's shape. My cleannng crew leave it alone for the most part.

But the green leafy algae I don't have, wish I did, looks really healthy has a nice green to it.

Well they have nailed the green one down, and if you don't want it, ship it to me, my wife does want it. Actually only send it this way if you can do it free to us. Don't want to pay shipping for macro.

The red turf, I am not a fan of at all, and I have it in my tank, can't get rid of it.

The red lettace, now I would keep that. Looks really nice, mine didn't make it.
