Help picking out NanoCube!!!!!!!

Ok I've done the homework. I've read a ton. I've talked to alot of reefers and LFS and I think I'm about ready to begin. Now comes to what size tank do I want. I'm going with the nano cube but cant decide on the 12 or 24 gallon. Would the 24 gallon be less maint? b/c it is twice the size. Could I get away with a water change every 2 weeks with a 24 or not. If the maint. is going to be the same I think I would like to go with a 24 so I can fit more corals and fish in it. But with the 24 I have to spend about twice as much money on livestock. When I went to my LFS today I talked to the guy that runs there SW disaplays. He also runs a 11g Nano in the store and has a 15 at home. We chated for a while and he said I sounded ready to start my own from what I have learned already. So I'm feeling real good about keeping a nano now. Oh and some links to where I can purchase my nano cube for a good price and maybe a link to an upgrade hood for more lighting would be great. Thanks for all the help and hope to start my tank and share the progress with everyone here. :)

Well being an owner of the JBJ 12, I can tell you that the maintenance on the 24 is going to be the same. What you are buying is more room to add your livestock. Remember, going bigger you will end up spending more. As far as the water changes, the more you are on top of it, the better quality you'll have in your water parameters. The only way you could skate by not going with weekly water changes would be to go with a protein skimmer (which I haven't seen one setup for a jbj nanocube). That's one of the reasons the water change is important in the first place, we need to make up the work that the setup doesn't have by doing water changes religiously every week. As far as where to get mods for it, my brother has gotten everything decked out from www.nanocustoms.com
He did such a custom job that the site themselves with my brothers permission have his exact setup for sale. It's the mikeguerrero signature series. You'll see what I mean you see it at the site. You'll need to communicate with chris to see what setup is best for you, and then he'll quote you accordingly to your needs and budget.

Also before I end this, I wanted to add that if you do go with the nanocube 24, you can always go slow. There is no need to deck it all out too quickly. Buy with what you can, and keep an eye open for rare items that you think would enhance the beauty of your setup. My girlfriend's tank wasn't setup and decked out, it took some time to accumulate the things she wants in there.

I would have gotten the 24g if my desk could have supported it--but alas...no.

However...I speak to Chris from nanocustoms.com quite a great deal...and he really dislikes the 24 gallons right now (1st edition)...I believe they are coming out with 24 gallon 2nd editions which will be better for upgrading in terms of light mods and also better in air exchange = less heat under the hood. So if you can...wait until they release the 2nd gens.

I concur with Dragon and Rbaby, wait for the second generation to come out. You'll get a better quality tank for the same price.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm still torn between the 12 and 24. I'd like more room for more corals but Nanocustoms really doesnt have many mods for the 24g. When does the next gen come out?
