Glass Thickness ??? Help ???

Hey Reefer friends,

Can anyone help me find out the glass thickness to my 72 gallon ReefReady bowfront by Oceanic Systems???

I'm trying to find out which Magnetic holder to purchase from Marine Depot; they list two, one as the 12 mm or 19 mm. They will hold up my Tunze 6000 pump.

Here is the link at Marine Depot:

http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_pow ... sp?CartId=

I called various LFS, nobody knows duh??? And I figured if I want answers this is the place to start.

I bet Jesse knows this one, he's always cutting into glass...

Help!!!!!

go big or go home......JK

well the price isnt that much more , i would go with the 19mm one. then you will never have a problem with it falling off.

in my expert oppinion.... .......i really dont think that your glass is thicker than 1/2inch or 12mm......but it might be cause of th4e front being bowed.

I would say the 19mm as well, especially if you are not sure. I dont think it will harm anything, will it?

Thanks guys,

I'm trying to save some cash here, did you guys see the prices on these units, the motor, the controller, the photocell, and now the magnetic holder... Man what gives to get a good pump in my tank...

Remember I just blew some serious cash on my Ozonizer from Sanders and the controller and other junk that goes with it...

So I'm pushing pennies, but I will get it if I have too... Don't want to have that monster pump fall to the gravel and take out my sand corals...

I don't see any way that it can be more than 1/2"........not in a 72 gallon tank.

Just my 2 cents.....

Mike,
I am sure you know, but just a heads up...... Be sure to vent the Ozonizer exhaust outside.....

Dickie,

My return line from my skimmer into the chemipure should take care of the excess ozone, I don't know yet since this weekend I will have all pieces to play with.

How would I vent the exhuast to the outside? Build me visual road map....

Thanks,

Mike

Well,

The verdict is in and Jesse as the prosecuter is right, my 72 gallon bowfront is 1/2 inch all over even on the bow...

I called Oceanic this morning and got through to their techs...

Mike,

I forgot to ask, are you using pressurized air or venturi?

If the return is going into the sump and chemipure, then I would say there isn't much danger of the 0 three doing much harm.....

Dickie,

My skimmer is the Deltec AP 600 which is ozone safe; I'll be connecting onto the venturi intake valve...

So I take it that my air is venturi, but then again I don't know what you mean by pressurized air?

MG

P.S
My return skimmer enters a filter sock in my sump... This filter sock has two full units of chemipure, so any excess gas should collide with the chemipure, hopefully.

ED the glass thickness is for the hanging of my new powerhead by Tunze, since I have glass tops, I would require something to hold up the monster pump.

Nah...Eddie those streamers are realyy high GPH. Nothing suited for nanos, although tunze makes small powerheads that would work for nanos.

Mike, I wasnt paying attention in the beginnging...you got a 6000, huh? nice.

Erik,

Air from my cabinet will enter my Coralife luft pump with control dial, from there it will enter a Red Sea airdryer 500 gram chamber of beads. This dry air will then enter my Sanders 50 mg/hr ozonizer which is plugged into my SMS 510 Milwaukee ORP controller.

Ozone will then travel via ozone safe norprene tubbing into the air intake of my Deltec skimmer which has an air intake valve that normally sucks in air via venturi pump.

The air intake will be fitted with a ozone safe T line inorder to make sure the venturi can breathe when the ozone and air pump shut off.

As the ozone mixes with the high levels of oxygen in the reactor the impurties should be caught in the collection cup. What travels to the sump is a collection of clean oxygen/ozone safe water.

The filter sock has always had my two units of chemipure....

So this is my proposed setup.... Any suggestions....????

Mike

P.S

Ed the Tunzes are for large aquariums that require a lot of flow without the direct streams that come out of powerheads. Powerheads are too ruff for Acros... Stony polyps...

Mike,
Sounds like you have it down. The only thing you may have to watch is the air from your cabinet may be a bit humid and you will have to cook your beads way more then you will like too.....

Dickie,

Regarding the humidity of my cabinet, not Mike Guerrero's no way!!! That is why I invested and purchased the glass lid that completely seals my sump....

Dickie you should see the amount of humidity it traps in the sump, all over the glass on the inside. Whenever I open it I feel the humid air.

The majority of reefers I know run a sump without the glass, thus raising the humidity a tenfold in the closed cabinet.

p.s
Jesse I don't have the Tunze yet, I'm placing it on my birthday wishlist next month, my wife said yes....
