So far I haven't been able to get an answer so maybe someone here can help me. I have a JBJ Nanocube 12DX and want to know where and how to mount a float switch for an auto-topoff system? Pics would be very helpful also. Thank you in advance. Skip

Hey Skip:

I dont think you'd need an auto-top off switch for your jbj. With how they close around nicely and flush, the water hardly evaporates, and by the time, it reaches the end of the week it's time for a water change :)

Summer although may be different though unless you have your house/apt/condo with central air to keep it at the right temp.

Skip,

Dragon is right. The design of the cube is airtight and evap is very very minimal in one week.

You need to be concerned in doing the water change at the end of the week which would replace any water evap.

If you leave you hood open in a day, you'll get about two full glasses of evaporation.

Hope this sheds some light.

You guys might be assuming everyone knows this but don't you replace the water that has been evaporated with regular water first and then do your SW water change. Your salinity would be all off track if you always replaced the evap. water with SW weekly right?

Just making sure.

Thank you Dragon, Mike and DJ. I only recently set this tank up and I am used to my 75 and 92 gallon corner reefs where evaporation is quite alot. I did set up a 2 1/2 gallon AGA nano about a year ago and had no evaporation at all due to a weatherstrip sealed plexiglass top. I took it down to make a couple of changes in the canopy and never set it back up.
I did play around with a float switch in the front part of the tank today, it works fine but I can see the bottom of the floatswitch so it will not be there long (but at least I know how to do it if I need to). Thanks again, Skip

PS If you were only going to make one mod to a 2004 series 12 DX what would it be?
