Hi guys got my first nano tank today. 29 gallon biocube. Before i start it up had a question on protien skimmers. Was wondering if any one has tryed the skimer made by saphire aquatic and is it worth the extra cash over the biocube skimmer that is only 34 dollars. If its worth it i will deffinatly wait and buy it. Also is one of the hang on the back refugums a worth while investment for my tank or should i just mod the midle compartment /and or do the power filter refugim mod. Thanks for any help i realy want my first tank to be a success.

well unfortunatly i havent recieved any response about the protienskimmer question. I have decided after mutch debate to go with the saphire aquatic one that is built for the biocube 29. Ill let u know how it goes ill be placing an order for 1 next week and tentivly will be setting up my tank after i get back from vacation.

The Saphire's are great! You chose well. Sorry I wasn't here in the interim, but you handled it, for sure. The cheaper BioCube skimmer is generally adequate, but once you build up your bioload, the Saphire will be the way to go.

As to the refugium question, I've not found them necessary on the cubes, but every extra 1/4 gallon of water is a bonus, so converting that middle chamber will reduce the volume, while adding a HOB power filter 'fuge will increase the volume. You can deduce my preference from those comments, I think. :)

thankyou for your imput BangaiiJim. I was afraid i had done somthing wrong and was being blackballed for a second. I am going to get the saphire skimmer when i get back from vacation and set teh tank up. here is a quick question for u or any one else who has imput when i was doing reserch i found out that saphire wakes a refugium for the biocube i might go that rout after my initial set up and once i have teh tank running and can save some more dollars. thanks for the info.
