anyone know where some decent price fire shrimp are?
I went over to Aquarium World last night, partially because $20 for fire shrimp is a good price for this town. I also had a 20% off coupon, and needed a lawnmower blenny. They only had 2 fire shrimp and they were $29ea. This is about $4 more than most other places in town, so I skipped em. The 20% would have brought it down to the regular prices of the rest of the LFS. I paid $9, (nearly double the $5 that I normally pay), for a yellow clown goby. They fed the tank brine and this one ate, so hopefully it won't be #4 in 3 months. I also picked up a red-headed goby for $29, which is $10 more than I paid for my last one I found in Austin. I wouldn't have gotten it, except I haven't seen these fish at any other LFS in town. Their coral prices were mostly stupidly expensive as usual. One of the most ridiculous things I saw were the $89 crocea clams. Everyone else it town has them for $35 up to $50 for really nice ones. I just don't understand why people would pay prices like this.fireFISH said:i'm assuming since your question was posted in the Houston Reefers section that you live in the area. I was in Aquarium World on the Northwest Freeway this past Friday looking for Emerald Crabs, and they had a brand new shipment of fire shrimp for $20 each. That sounds a little steep, but as far as I know that's the cheapest around. i'm holding out for an anenome shrimp at the moment, but if i wasn't i would have gotten one, they looked healthy and happy.
Don't sweat the shrimp price. I've never had anyone at AW come down on any price that's listed on the tank. Needing the blenny, having the coupon, and it being 6:30, was my main impetus for going to them. The shrimp would have just been a nice bonus.fireFISH said:incysor/djconn,
i'm only in town 2-3 times a month now, wasn't keeping reefs in high school 2 years ago, when i still lived in Houston, so i guess i dont really know any of the cheaper stores around. Aquarium World has been the only one i've purchased from.
What stores do you two usually buy from?? Where are they located?? I'm right outside the Spring/Tomball area, any close to me??
Sorry, work has kept me busy this morning. Aquatic World has more stock, but I have ended up buying more stuff from B&B. They seem to get stuff in that other's don't have, and their prices are a bit better.fireFISH said:incysor,
not sure if you'll be able to reply to this before about noon tomorrow(thats when i plan on going), but just in case i get lucky......out of Aquatic World and B&B, which one have you found to be better??? I've got to do some last minute Christmas shopping tomorrow(imagine that), so i'll have a time restraint and will only be able to stop by one......which one should it be???
