Feeding Corals, Specifically Frogspawn

When I bought my Frogspawn, I listened to the store employee go on and on about how direct feeding was not necessary - but definitely helpful. I have a lot of suggestions on what I could use. cyclopeez, fresh hatched baby brine shrimp, chunks of silversides, and the list goes on.

However, every conversation I have with someone I think knows something about this says specifically that food particles will stick to the frogspawn tentacles. This is behavior I have observed in anemones both in the wild and in tanks I have kept previously. It is behavior I *expected* with this animal, although this is the first one I have ever kept.

But it’s just not happening.

I have done everything but the large chunks. Nothing sticks to the tentacles. I drop mysis shrimp on it with all powerheads off. I let it sit for 20 minutes. When I turn the flow back on, the food just flies on out.

As far as I can tell, the frogspawn is healthy and happy. It’s beautiful. It’s been in my tank now for over two months. It’s growing.

I can’t say I am overly concerned at this point, simply because it is looking so good, at least to me. I just find it odd that so many can give me the same advice and I just can’t seem to make this work. I figure if everyone else can do it, and I can’t... I must be doing something wrong.

Advice, additional instuction, assistance appreciated.

Another thing about this... I have a smaller tank - 29 gallons. So I am very concerned about overfeeding and polluting this tank.

i have never kept fraogspawn, but did have some hammerhead coral. i was able to feed the hammerhead. the food like you said stuck to the tenticles like an anenome. i was feeding it chunks of krill, mysis, and a small dead clown goby. i wouldnt be concerned since you said its doing great, i think maybe if it wasnt doing great then it would eat. maybe its not hungry  HTH

I'm guessing it's just not hungry and that frogspawn is getting enough food from the water column. I'd worry if it starts to look stressed.

Maybe it is getting it fill from coepods and amphipods and doesn't want the offerings you having been tgrying to give it. I would keep trying occasionally but as long as it looks good and is growing I wouldn't be too concerned.

Yeah! dont be worry at all my frogspawm is 8 month old and i never feed it i think it gets enough food from water & light really, but well when i feed dried zyclop ezze or flakes some always stick on its tentacles but havent seen it eat it...i see the sexys eating it some times  so i think will be just fine i never feed my corals and they all seem to split and grow and expand nicely so dont worry just in case add some phytoplankton everyother day and you'll be fine...
