I have more questions now on equipment. I think i have decided on the 25 gallon tank. I will probably go with a emperor 400 for filtration. I need recomendations on protien skimmer and powerhead. I also welcome any suggestions on the emperor 400, mainly plan to use it because I already have a new one here at the house. Thanks in advance.

as far as skimmer go, the best one that i have heard of is the aqua-c remora. it is a bit pricy, but you really do get what you pay for. i have the bak pak 2r, it works well, not too noisy, occasionally have a small problem with bubbles entering the aquarium. i dont personally have experience using canisters on a slat tank, though, so someone else will have to pick that up.
I second the Remora, I have one and I am quite satisfied with it. I had a BakPak 2R in the past and it also worked well but it was quite a bit noisier. As far as powerheads are concerned I have been well satisfied with MaxiJets. I have 5 or 6 MJ 1200s in my various tanks and they have all performed well for me. They are also highly recommended for use on wavemakers that alternate powerheads. I would avoid the Powersweeps, they tend to become jammed on a regualr basis.
Powersweeps are larger than maxijets, and the 'sweep' function tends to crap out pretty quickly.
Remora would be great, but it might be a bit of overkill pricewise for skimmer that'll handle a 25g.
My boss has one of these on his 18g, and it has done a fantastic job. you can't really beat the price. Just from watching it, and the prizm skimmers I've used in the past I'd say this one does a much better job, and is quite a bit cheaper.
