Enough for a 29 gal?

Yeah, i was originally thinking of just bolting the pendant right to the shelf, but after i thought about it for a minute, i decided that probably wasn't the best idea. I'm most likely going to hang it a few inches below the shelf to get airflow and so as not to catch the shelf on fire.

Well, after all this, i'm not sure we really answered my original question

Which do you think would be better for the tank:

1 250w DE pendant (14k, or 20k - not sure yet)
or 1 150w DE with 2x65w PC actinics

I'm leaning towards the 150w with PCs, because then i can get the dusk/dawn effect, and i don't think i'd be risking bleaching out any low-light softies...

And would hanging those lights 8" above the tank be ok? would the PC's get light that far down? (8" plus 18" deep tank)

Again, i'd like to be able to do SPS, clams, and possibly try an anemone (not sure on that one yet)

If you like the dawn dusk effect then definitely go with the 150 W MH and PCs. You wouldn't have any problem keeping clams and SPS under that lighting. 8 inches above the water is the correct hieght.

Sounds like a good plan to me. You should be able to keep anemones, clams, and SPS fine under this lighting setup.

one last question (hopefully)...

the light fixture i was looking at getting is 15" front to back - the tank i want is only 12" deep - all the lights look like they only take up about 13", but if the lights do happen to overlap the tank slightly, will that reduce some of the light getting into the tank, or will the fact that it's 8" above the tank anyway mean that some of the light will be missing the tank regardless as it spreads?
