Encouraging Ocellaris Clownfish pair to host an anenome

Hey all! I have had a pair of Ocelllaris clowns, and I have a bice bubble tip anenome for them, but am unable to encourage them towards it. I am sure they are C.B. tank raised fish.

I know both they & the anenome would do better, not to mention look awesome, being hosted. Any way to encourage them to host? The anenome is huge and open, inviting, and its like they dont even see it.

Thanks,
Khara

As the saying goes.... you can lead a horse to the water, but you cannot make him drink. I'm not sure if there is a way to encourage them to host it. how long have they been in the tank with the anemone? sometimes it takes a little while for them to warm up.

sigh... I have had a nice GBTA and a pair of ocellaris clowns for a while... 3+ months and they don't want to play nice for me. Time is all I know, if you find a trick then please share.

P.S. My wife had to talk me out of duct taping them together...

I think that tank-raised Ocellaris clowns are sort of a hit or miss when it comes to hosting. I have read that BTA's and Ocellaris clowns don't come from the same area and thus they will less often host a BTA. I have heard that they will host Heteractis magnifica, but I wouldn't suggest that for a nano! They can get 3 feet across.

Yep, read the same things...after I bought the anemone. But it's a beautiful anemone, I'm thinking of getting a porcelain crab for it.

When I started my tank I just wanted a Nemo lol so I got one and a carpet anemone. Just a few weeks later he just didnt want to stay away from the anemone!! Then, I visited my LFS to get another one and one of the guys told me that thay dont usually do that with a carpet anemone...lucky me!!!, well, no so lucky, days after that, the anemone got sucked by the filter and didnt came out from the tube that sucks the water so I had to cut her and she died... Nemo was eaten by a puffer fish  Any ways, try geting a carpet anemone and see what hapens!

Just please be careful with those anemones. I've not had one, but to my understanding if a larger one gets a hold of you, you may have to run hot tap water over it to get it to let go.

I've kept a species aquarium of tank raised clowns. I used BTA's solely as my host anemones, as they are most of the time tank-raised and very hardy (for an anemone). So although they have never even seen an anemone before, they DID eventually went into them. It sounds weird. But when it's dim or dark, shine a flash light on the anemone. The clowns will be attracted to it and investigate and probe around faster.

My ocellaris recently started hosting my neon green toadstool! I had a gold strip maroon that took to a rose BTA while the anemone was still cupped in my hand! I didnt even had time to rest in on the LR.

BTA's aren't the occelaris's natural anemone that they host in (not to say they wont). not sure of the specific one that they do host in however.

all that said, the only reason clownfish host in anemone's is because they feel threatened by there surroundings, whether it be another fish or whatever. if you have them by themselves in a nano, or with other non-aggressive fish, it is more than likely that they will not host as there is no threat.

im extremely tired so i hope what is above makes sense to all  if it doesnt let me know and ill try and reword it tomorrow when there is more caffiene in the bloodstream

Mine host in an area that is 1/2 GSP and 1/2 Yellow Colony Polyps...
It's right where the moonlight shines onto the tank. I did that bc I read somewhere that a more direct moonlight gets them "inspired". I put it on it.... and voila... polyp hosting.
