battery operated air pumps to keep water moving... water changes regularly (every couple of hours depending on temps)

should be fine without lights for a day or so, heat may be an issue depending on how hot it gets in your house without AC..

can you tell i have some experience with this living in Miami with all these hurricanes?

Sorry to here that Ed.

You can use a cheep computer UPS, some can last a full computer systems for 8 hours. If you have a used computer store around they might be able to get you one for under a 100 bucks. Just an idea, cheaper then a generator.

Try walmart in the sporting goods fishing department , target ect may have em . otherwise try a turkeybaster to sporatically move some water  How are you online without power ?
if you have a battery back up for the computer plug in just a power head and/or your filter it should give you 1 or 2 hours run constantally other wise try incriments of 15 minutes at a time. We run battery back ups on our tanks not sure which ones they are . And they are cheeper than a generator , with those you have to becareful to vent if it is gas powered so you dont get co poisioning :lol3:

Ed,

My NC24 went through a power outage for over 10 days during hurricane Wilma last year and everything did just fine with no water circulation, heater and lighting.
I used battery operated air pumps to oxygenate the water, and that's pretty much all you really need in a emergency situation to remedy the situation.

ohhhh i think i over react but i dont want any loss cause i love my fishies and invertebrate ... just thinking of loosing them makes me   but really now i know that just with a battery pump or air pump they will be ok.... " you know how is when something like this happens we tend to worry alot"

eddy :cool1:

P.S: thx for sharing and reply aromano....

Ed,

I would be worried as well, and it's always a good idea to have a back up plan, as we never know when these things may happen and for how long. The battery operated airpumps are cheap and a good idea to have one just in case. ;-)

IF YOU GO FOR A BATTERY OPERATED AIR PUMP......

Get the better one, which is made for saltwater. It costs a few bucks more, but will run 24 hours on one "D" battery.

Hey... I don't know the whole situation of your living quarters arrangement. The best advice I can offer is, go and by a 12 volt converter and run a extention cord from your car. I don't have any advice on how to hook them up. But I do know you can power alot of stuff with a good one. And they are pretty cheap! I'm going to invest in two for my own use. LOL a little bit late.

This is how I lost my 75 during Hurricane Rita last year. I had no back up plan - not that it would have done any good anyway. I am glad your situation was temporary. Mine was not. Two weeks with no power and we evacuated out of state, since the areas we usually evacuate to were already saturated with Katrina evacueesfrom New Orleans & Mississippi.

Anyway, I know of one large reef tank (200) here that did survive the power outage from the storm. They got one of those battery powered (12v) air pumps and hooked it up to a deep cycle marine battery and a good size air stone. The pump ran for a few days until they were able to get back home and replace the battery. This was a fairly low cost method to really buy some time.

Thx guys to reply and share your experience & some backup plans to share and well we all need to have this in mind cause we dont know when is gonna happend to us.....

PIRATE yes i heard your story before and i feel really sorry for your big loss and a bet it was a nightmare ....something to remind all your life lol...but better the tank than us ha....and well what i got in the end was backup thing for computer that last like 5 hours if lucky and some battery airpumps just if something happens in the future....but well like you could imagine when i got my power back everything was fine except for temperature that i had to fix slowly so fish didnt go in a shock....

Thx once again for your reply and well is better later than never :lol3:
