I've been hearing a lot of talk about egg cartons being used with a reef tanks. Can someone educate me on the purpose and how it's used???

mike there is a post somewhere on here where incysor answered that. From memory he said something like it's safe to use, transparent with a hole in the top, where in most cases it would help reduce the fishies from jumping out of an open tank (such as mine) For the fish to jump out, it would have to jump completely straight up, but the odds of that aren't much. I'm sure you can get more info from your local LFS or the net.

Not egg cartons. Eggcrate. Do a search. It's available at all Lowes and Home depots in the lighting department. It's just large sheets of plastic grid.

Except that if you ask for eggcrate the clerk will look at you like you just landed in a space ship. Last time I bought some they called it light diffuser panelling.

almost as funny as asking the deli clerk for 1 piece of shrimp to cycle your tank.
You should see their face when you ask for 3 clams to feed your pet octopus. :D
