Does everything in the tank die durin cycling?

There is some interesting things moving on the Liverocks that came with it(Third day of cycling so far), will they survive or are they going to die once the nitrate levels start rising. The hitchhikers looks like either some sort of anamonies and others looks like snails with tentacles on their back instead of a shell.

Most everything will survive... in fact, there is more in there that you havent seen yet. Most likely, you will continue to find stuff ever a year or more later.

The anemone-looking hitchhikers, are the aiptasia? If so, it might be best to get rid of them with Joe's Juice or some other method.

Is it possible to get a picture of the snail creatures you are speaking of? Those sort of concern me.

i would personally never set up a reef tank again without cooking my rock first. very seldom have i found that the good outweighs the bad on rock that is imported. yes the purp is cool but it will come back and yea occassionally a cool hitchiking coral or macro - sure, but..........
cooking rock will save you a ton of headaches in the long term of your reef.

Hmm, i need to learn how to take Macro photos if you guys want to see the hitchhiker. As for the aiptasia, dont these have a long stem and then the tentacles? The one's I have are like tentacles directly attached to the rocks.

Hey Reefman23, it doesn't really look like those. This is clear and sticks out like anemones but has no stem. As for the snail looking thing with tentacles on his back rather than a shell, he kinda disappeared for now. Here are some pics of the setup and the light canopy in build stages.

Hey guys, I always use Oak for the outer pieces since it's dark, dense and very easy to work with. The inside can be anything as long as you seal it against the moisture.


Reefman23, thats my Reminton 700PSS that I use to do precision rifle matches with. Good little stick for the $$. Just like Nano's!
