I was wondering how many people run skimmers on their nanos. Seems to me that it would remove quite a few nutrients. Lets see what everyone has to say.

I'm going to use one on my 15gal. in a sump when I get it up and running. It will house nothing but sps and a pair of Helfrich's dartfish in about 6 months or so. The skimmer will give me a little insurance on the water quality.

I was wondering about this very topic when i first started up my nano. I have an aquac remora pro skimmer on my 55 gal and i love it, wouldnt run a reef that suze without one, but it really seems like more of a pain to put one on the 12 gal cube, since i'd have to cut into the hood and get a skimmer small enough to fit. Most of the people I've talked to don't have one and their tanks run fine. I just keep up with water changes so quality doesn't become a problem.

You really don't have to run a protein skimmer on a nano = just do frequent water changes. But if you use an aquaclear filter - get the AC surface skimmer - it cost only $9 - one of the best equiptment bargains - attaches to any aquaclear filter

It's not a "protein" skimmer, it's just a "surface" skimmer. I bought one from Bigalsonline a few years ago when my cichlid tank was getting an oily surface on it.
