So I'm looking around at the nanocustoms.com site, and looking at the BC29 1.150 mod.. i happen to have a 150 DE Pendant light.. and the ballast.. how hard would a DIY nanocustoms setup be?

Anyone know where they get the reflector/glass shield? or have dimensions for it?

i would use the reflector and glass from the pendent you already have. you might have to modify them to fit. not familiar with your light so its hard to say. www.nanotuners.com also has good stuff.

Why not just use the pendant and avoid all of the possible heat problems?

the pendant doesn't have the a high enough WAF (wife approval factor) for me to be able to keep it. She likes the clean look of the hood. I've tried selling her on the more stylish pendants (this one is an Outer Orbit) like the AquaMedic or Geismann (though the Giesmanns are a little pricy) - or even something like a sunpod... but she wants the hood.

She actually stated like 5 minutes ago as I tried to persuade her otherwise, and I quote:

I'm really patient with you on this.. getting all the little critters, and going to the 'Frag Fest', and you disappearing for a few hours on the weekends to go hang out at the LFS.. if you want this to remain a family thing, it'd be a good idea to give a little bit on this one...
So the pendant has got to go. :)

Oh, and I meant to mention - I spoke to the nanotuners.com folks and was told that the HQI subassembly for the BC29 - which includes the heat-shield, bulb sockets, reflector, UV Glass, and mounting hardware can be purchased separately, but you have to phone the order in.

i'm just thinking that since the hood already has the PC's and moon lights, as well as a 2x36W PC ballast.. and I have the pendant with the 150W ballast, it ought to be possible to just get the reflector, slap it in and away we go..

There's a post over on n-r that deals with this subject in the DIY section.. I don't know what the rules are for posting links to other forum sites here, so i'll leave the exact location as an exercise to the reader to locate.

Another post over in RC's DIY forum has links to a n-r post as well where someone modded a BC29 with a 150W MH as well.

That is too funny about the WAF factor. I have the same issue with my wife. I couldn't get the AP24 with the sunpod because the open tank wasn't "WAF" as you say. So I went with a BC29 with the stock hood.

I think you may be on to something with that 150 deflector. How will you fit that in your stock hood with the other lights?? It sounds like a good mod at a reasonable price.

I would like to see pics of you progress or final product.
