Digi-lab Digital Handheld Tester

Hey everybody:

I got JBJ's new Digital Handheld Tester, usually 160 bucks, but got it for a bill.

It measures:
1.) Temperature
2.) Salinity
3.) Specific Gravity

I've tried it out and I'm quite happy with it's accuracy. Here's a picture of the product, and yes I do recommend it. If you are still messing with a hydrometer, I'd say save up for a good refractometer (like my bro has) or this Digital Handheld Tester that's newer and it's been said to be more accurate than anything out there at the moment.

My results tonight after my water change:

1.) Temperature 79.8
2.) Salinity: 30PPT
3.) Specific Gravity: 1.023

One of the vendors at MACNA had them and I was interested in them but didn't get a chance to really look them over. Thanks for your input, I may add one to my wish list now. Skip

Yeah, there is a calibration screw in the back. It also comes with some fluid that's at 35PPT, you have to dunk it in there, until it reads 35PPT. Once you have it to always stay there by adjusting that screw, it's calibrated. Very easy to do. The device comes with batteries, and also comes with extra batteries as well.

How about a picture of it in action on two different tanks? How easy is it really? Just drop and click? Too easy to be true, lets see proof?

alrighty mike, you bum, I'll get some results in for ya. I took the time to step away from watching my all time favorite Monday night Raw to take some pictures of me using the digital handheld tester on my 6 gallon tank, and on Sandra's 12 gallon. I have the pics on my server, so I'll see if I can find some time at work to upload them.

Okay,

I'm waiting for the results, want to really see if it's that easy. When I want to do a test with my refractometer, I have to pull some water from tank place on slide and then try to pinpoint what line it's on, takes longer to do than yours.

digital is the future mike, :) I have the pictures, but they are too big, I'd need to resize them. With how work is today, it's looking like it'll have to wait until I get home today.

dragon,

does it have to be calibrated just once or do you have to calibrate after so long of a time?
just curious was interested in getting one...

drty, as far as I know, you calibrate it just once, as it's a screw that stays in place, and it's protected in the back from being adjusted as it has a cover.

Well for Mike and the others, here are some more pics of the digital tester in action.

here you see all it comes with...

next..

jbj 6 tested after a few days, not topped off yet.

PPT:

I then topped off, and that adjusted my results.

Temperature:

Now for the JBJ 12:
Here the Salinity shows that it's a tad high...observe below

PPT:

S.G.:

Temperature:

The indicator shows that the bar is kinda high, it should be in the middle, or even one slot in the back, as when you encounter evaporation, it puts you in the middle where you should be. So it's now for the after results...( I had Sandra take some water out and replace with R/O )

PPT:

Aww much better, Sandra's tank is now where it should be, much better than before....all thanks to the accuracy of the Digital Handheld Tester :)

Wow!!!!!!!!!!

That unit kicks butt, a lot quicker than my refractometer; I get lazy with mine but If I just did a point and click it would be much easier...

Thanks for sharing....

That is awesome. I like how your clowns in the first few pics think you are feeding it to them.

Thanks for the heads up Dragon, I found a couple of online vendors selling them for just under $100. None of the LFS in my area carry them.
