Difference Between Basic 12gal Nano and DX

Newbie to Nano's here, looking for a quick schooling. I just bought a nano cube on Ebay and picked it up. I paid for the 12-gallon Nano Cube DX. The seller was a local distributor, so I went and picked it up. When I get home and set it up, I plugged in the lights and see it only has one 24-watt 50/50 light. :flaming: The DX is supposed to have two of these in it, right?

I called the seller and they were already closed for the day. I need to know what the other differences are between the two aquariums before I call this turkey back in the morning.

Thanks for the help!

Huck

BTW - Cool sight with lotsa good info!!!

I did check their website, and it appears they are the same except the lighting setup. I was asking those who actually have or had them if this the only difference.

call them back. Did it come with it's own ballast? I believe the standard one may have it built in like the 6 gallon. I'm not entirely sure. I only own the 6 gallon standard nano cube and the 12 gallon nanocube deluxe. You should have a ballast and 48 watts of lighting. Also the sponges in the back consists of 3 different sponges, as apposed to one big sponge. Also the way it opens, I believe may be different. Best of luck to you, hope it works out in the end.

The DX should have a remote ballast, meaning it can go on the floor outside the tank. I'm not sure the original model's ballast was remote.

It should have a vented reflector over the lights. The standard one isn't vented.

It should have two fans in the canopy. The standard one doesn't.

2x36w lights in the DX vs. 1x24w light in the orginal.
I don't know if it's one 10k lamp and one actinic or two 50/50 lamps.

I don't know about the sponges.

I went to the dealer yesterday afternoon. They were very cool about it. The only difference is in the entire hood assembly, which is easily swapped out. The guy working in the warehouse was new and didn't know there was a difference. Plus, they were out of stock on the Deluxe model. To make up for it they are going to ship the replacement hood assembly out to me for free so I don't have to drive there again. Very cool folks to deal with.

Thanks for the help!

One more question...Am I supposed to to PWC's while the tank is cycling???

Nope. It won't help anything, and may remove some of the bacteria you're trying to culture, thereby lengthening your cycle.

Glad you'll get the new canopy soon.
