I purchased a piece of lexan XL10 from home depot for less that $10 for a 24"x12" piece. now i just have to cut it down to size. The only thing with it is it does sag slightly... i think i can fix that.

Sadie...thanks for all your help. I hope this stuff works. ill let you all know.

You only need a small piece of glass to go in front of the bulb. It shouldn't run you more than $10-$15 at most.

With a larger setup you'll still only need small pieces of glass. Most fixtures and retro kits will come with them.

I think the lexan may do the job, but it'll be waste of money, and have to be mail ordered.

I already bought the lexan for less than $10...it will cover the entire canopy protecting all the electrical.

Incysor, i have been trying to get this answered...what KIND of glass? every glass store i call has NEVER heard of tempered UV glass, and these are companies that have been in business 25+ years. Is TEMPERED all i need? nobody seems to be sure on this topic.

The glass doesn't need to be tempered. It just needs to be UV resistent.

I'd call one of the lighting companies like champion lighting, or hellolights, and ask them what type of glass it is. They may be able to simply sell you a piece.

You might have heat issues with a full sheet of lexan across the length of your canopy...But maybe not. Since you already have it, I wouldn't worry about getting glass.
