I plan just to have damsels in the 12g nano. How many would be safe along with the hermits I have (two) and the shrimps (two) snails (3-4) and live coral I plan to add over the next few months.

Dave,
I'm a newbie to Salt Water Aquariums, but if I'm not mistaken, there are a number of Damsels that can be agressive. So I'm not to sure about how many you can put together in a 12g nano. I'm hoping that someone else will be able to help you out.

To answer your question, my best guess would be 2 damsels, but I'd wait to see what other more seasoned reefer have to say.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If it were me...personally I woudnt go with Damsels, my reason... aggressive, kinda boring, pain to get out if you want them out, kinda small space for 2, bioload, etc. But whatever floats your boat man! To your question, I havent known any to pick on what you mentioned except maybe the shrimp, but I doubt it.

A friend of mine has 3 Damsels and there seems to be no problems between them or with the 2 Skunk Shrimps that share the tank (keeping in mind that his tank is much bigger than 12g).

If you do choose to go the route of getting some Damsels, try finding some that are SUPER SMALL. From what I've read, Damsels get more agressive as they grow. (Once again, I'm a newbie, so you may want to wait and see what someone more seasoned has to say)

Boring... from what I've seen, they are far from boring. That being said, they are FAST swimmers! If you have LR with tons of hiding places, I wouldn't want to be the one trying to catch them if need be.

As I said earlier, it would be me "personally", so boring is just my opinion. I perfer small gobies, firefish, etc. Hawkfish are cool too. But if you want the damsels, something like a Talbots or a Starcki damsel should be less aggressive as the Blue Devil or Domino damsels.
