The GE Silicone I Kitchen and Bath is the exact same silicone that I purchased about a month ago and found it on the label after I already applied it to everything (including a few pieces of base rock...yeah that sucked getting that crap out of porous rock). The silicone is intended to be used in high humidity areas and it does contain an anti-mold chemical to keep the black mold from growing in the seams. I would let it fully cure (48 hours after application) then use a razor knife and remove it carefully. I'm not sure how to get it off of acrylic.

Thanks guys,

I only wish I had known this before I even brought the stuff and applied it to my canister. To say the least, The canister is no more. I didn't want to take the chance of contaminating my water, so I removed the canister and went to Petsmart where I purchased some Perfecto Aquarium Sealant 100% clear silicone rubber. It's safe for freshwater and saltwater fish.

When I returned home, I went to work on my canister to remove the bad silicone. However, yesterday I put the nose of the caulk gun into the drill hole and filled her up. I believe this was a fatal move. Because no matter how much I remove silicone from the outside, I cannot get into the interior of the top of the canister to remove the bad silicone inside.

Update:

Thus, I went with my back up plan in case things didn't work out. The tank is plumbed from the bottom. So, I'll have to leave the canister connected with the valves closed until I replace the canister.

Nevertheless, I had a bio-wheel power filter from the 30g tank not in use. So, I removed the carbon from it and placed my Cheato inside on one side and chemi-pure on the other side. I took my Bonsai desktop lamp and I'm using that to light up the cheato at night.

I don't know If I'll ever go back to the canister filter or just stay with what I have for now. I'll need to go HD to get some valves to fit over the 1" bulkheads that way it will seal the bottom off. Or, I just may buy one of those kits off ebay and go to Petsmart and buy a $11 10g tank and turn that into a refug.

Let me know what you guys think.

Soory about the whole canister thing. Have you considered some sort of sump? It should be really easy to incorporate into this tank.

Update:

After I had time to sleep and rest awhile, I'm still very :iill , I took my top part of the canister apart. Turned out that the hole I drilled would not have been exposed to my saltwater inside the top part of the canister, only the bottom part of the canister is.

Since I had the canister taken apart, I cleaned out all the GE Silicone Kitchen and Bath inside the handle and in the bottom part of the top. Once I had all the bad silicone clear away. I laid the foundation for the good aquarium silicone. Testing will begin 8pm tonight.

Now back to bed for me.

Stay tuned.

Thanks Chad,

If everyone doesn't know Chad by know, he is one of the original inventors of the shallow rimless cubes. You must read his story and watch his video and you will be amazed at what you see. He, I believe, is the original starter of the canister/refug. All my ideas came from him and Jemram.

Now I going back to sleep.

Stay tuned....

update.....this tank is no more.

Update:

Due to financial problems, there was no heat in the house. I tried to keep my tank temp as high as possible. However, the temp in the tank just kept falling. When the temp in the thank fell below 60 degree's, you can imagine how cold it was in my house, I took action to save my CUC and small sea animals within the tank. As I was moving the tank, crack. The side of the tank shattered. :(

I moved what was left over into my 12g JBJ nano cube.
