Thanks guys,
I only wish I had known this before I even brought the stuff and applied it to my canister. To say the least, The canister is no more. I didn't want to take the chance of contaminating my water, so I removed the canister and went to Petsmart where I purchased some Perfecto Aquarium Sealant 100% clear silicone rubber. It's safe for freshwater and saltwater fish.
When I returned home, I went to work on my canister to remove the bad silicone. However, yesterday I put the nose of the caulk gun into the drill hole and filled her up. I believe this was a fatal move. Because no matter how much I remove silicone from the outside, I cannot get into the interior of the top of the canister to remove the bad silicone inside.
Update:
Thus, I went with my back up plan in case things didn't work out. The tank is plumbed from the bottom. So, I'll have to leave the canister connected with the valves closed until I replace the canister.
Nevertheless, I had a bio-wheel power filter from the 30g tank not in use. So, I removed the carbon from it and placed my Cheato inside on one side and chemi-pure on the other side. I took my Bonsai desktop lamp and I'm using that to light up the cheato at night.
I don't know If I'll ever go back to the canister filter or just stay with what I have for now. I'll need to go HD to get some valves to fit over the 1" bulkheads that way it will seal the bottom off. Or, I just may buy one of those kits off ebay and go to Petsmart and buy a $11 10g tank and turn that into a refug.
Let me know what you guys think.
