Coral calamity...

Three days ago we purchased a Goni sp. (Flowerpot) from the LFS. It seems to be somewhat tempermental-opening for a while and then closing. Today it has opened very little. Another thing that kind of freaked us out is that, also today, part of our Anthelia sp. has "shrank" and turned a purplish color. Does anyone know what is happening with the Anthelia sp. ? I have read that the Goni needs iron and manganese supplementation for continued survival, anyone else recommend that? Any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

Other than adding the Goni, the only thing that changed is that we moved the direction of the powerhead-not circulating as much toward the Anthelia. We moved the powerhead direction back toward the Anthelia, but so far no changes.

-All water parameters normal
-Temp is 78F
-12 gal nano
-Penguin 550 powerhead

It is normal for a new coral to take time to acclimate , however you got 2 of the harder corals to care for and that have a lower survival rate in the home aquariums ......I am sure others will have some input for you that have more experience with these corals than I do

Quick update... the flowerpot coral seems to be coming out of it's temperamental stage. Its polyps are starting to open back up. I thought I had noticed some bleaching on the perimeter of the coral, but once it opened up, the bleaching seemed to go away. Not sure what all of that was about yet. However, the Anthelia seems to only have improved slightly. There are two "parts" to it on the same rock. Only half of the Anthelia turned purplish-gray. The other part remained normal. I'm hoping the water change tomorrow will help improve them both. I did purchase some Kents Strong Iron with Manganese. Has anyone used this before, and were there good results? Thanks for ya'lls help!

From all that I have ever read or experienced with gonis they do better in a slightly dirty tank (not well skimmed, has some organics in it), some friends of mine are having success by feeding the tank their goni is in with Marc Weiss' new Reef Bugs. They have a goni that was receding quite badly and they had given it up as a goner but since they started with the reef bugs it has started growing new tissue back over the exposed skeleton. I don't have anything to do with Marc Weiss or his company, I just thought I would share their experience (especially since it has a positive outcome).

Skip,

Thanks for the info! A question though, are Reef Bugs a supplement for the tank or a target feeding solution?
