Christmas tree coral

Found my new Christmas tree coral like this when I came home today. Not sure if something was picking on it or what. He's still 'out' but not sure what is going to happen when he goes to close up for the night. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Is there anything close enough to it to either sting it or be having a chemical warfare with it? It doesn't look happy thats for sure.

No, just the shroom behind it, but I think it was well out of its reach. Even if it had touched it, I think the shroom would have taken the brunt of it.

The only advice I can offer then would be to add a fresh bag of carbon, maybe there is something in the water that it doesn't like. Good luck.

i've never owned one so i'm not speaking from direct experience with this coral........ it apears to be dieing back from the base quite heavily ie the exposed spicules.......i would maybe try to trim off any bad flesh with a sharp razor and place it somewhere where it will get a huge amount of current to blow away any potential bacterial/protozoan feeders that want to attack that bad area. they are not photosynthetic so it may also be wise to shade it some so algae doesn't start to grow on it.......not much for advice here though....sorry hope it recovers

The base of the coral has withered away, yet oddly enough it still looks healthy. I'm stumped. It is currently in a shot glass with some sand in the bottom, to keep it upright.
