any one use chemi-clean to rid red slime?
how do you dose ?
predisolve in water but do I mix for the 10 gallon or should I cut the dose in 1/2 for the 7gallon mini bow front? :maitre

yes, pre mix and you can make the scoop just level for the 7 gallon.

I have used this many times and I am very happy with it.

Keep in mind that unless you address the underlying issues - excess nutrents/phosphates, the cyano will eventually return. Been there done that, battling it again.

fwiw, Ultralife Red Slime Remover does the same thing.

Thanks sugar .
We have cut feedings to 2 x a week and I am doing massive portion control with pellets , the fish still seem happy and healthy , I did a 20% h20 change on monday ( I think) and will do another today and then the regular on sunday , that should help in reducing the underlying cause , from this point on once it is under control the feedings will go to every other day along with portion control

unfortunately no I don't I was gonna try it but failed at doing so I currently have some salt mixing and saturday I will tear the tank down scrub all the live rock and place in fresh mixed water with a power head and a filter to remove any pieces that float off , I will then scrub the tank and equipment down place in new sand and seed with 2 cups old sand and place aprox 1/2-3/4 the old water back in keeping the old filter pad I will then reaquascape and filter for a bit then rinse out the pad and replace and then add the fish back after they drip acclimate for about 2 hours along with the corals then from there I will try to handle it as a largish water change ...... I am still in the planning phase so as to make this go smooth at very least I will have a power head in the holding tank with a filter so as to not get any fish that stress , last time I rescaped the fish had ammonia burns from my failure from adding a filter I just plain forgot and did not think that it would take as long to do . So I am doing an equipment check tomorrow to make sure the stuff works and then saturday tearing down then rebuild it ... I will be looking in the future for a fuge

Sadie,

In my thread evolution, I document the Red Slime Remover, it works great as I have heard the chemi-clean has killed clams.

Since I'm a clam owner I went with this product instead of the chemi-clean and my clams were okay and the slime was killed.

The reason I used the ChemiClean is that according to the label it doesn't kill nitrifying bacteria. IME the others are just an antibiotic that kills bacteria non-specifically. It is good to know about the potential clam problem though.

Mike even tho I dont have a clam and probably never will , just curious to know and it may also help those making a decision on what to use does it have the same ramifications as copper in other words once used will it leach back into the system and eventually kill a clam, like copper would do to inverts ?
