Cannister Filter

Can anyone recommend a good cannister filter for a 10 gallon? I'm constant;y plagued with dusty water, for some reason my fishes are stirring up my sand bed and kicking up a fine dust suspension in the water column. Do you think a cannister filter would be worth it for a 10G?

I agree HOT mag - i love mine i move it around between tanks all the time - they (at least mine) tend to shoot some microbubbles into the tank some times but if your just using it for clarifing water or running some carbon they are great. also they make an excellent pump for mixing up salt water

When used for mixing water did you put the filter in the bucket or just hang it on the side? I am picturing this with the way I mix water and it doesn't seem like the easiest thing to do.

That explains it then, alot of times I mix in a trashcan because of the 2 big tanks.

yes and no - your comparing two different beasts - a standard HOB is far easier to maintain just pop out the filter and rinse, a cannister needs to be disassembled to clean. but a canister will give much better clarification and is more versitle in use of medias like carbon, phosban or whatever....if your just looking for mech filtration on a nano tank a HOB is fine, and probably the most common choice - but that being said, i originally just bought the HOT mag for occational use but it has yet to get a day off.........

The major difference with the HOB filters versus, say, the HOT magnum is that you are generally getting a higher rate of flow...(250 GPH with the HOT Magnum), with no-bypass filtration. This means that 100% of the water is being forced through the filtration media.
