candy cane shots

Just testing out my settings with my camera, this is screwing around with the shutter speeds, makes it darker or lighter and what not. I don't fully understand all of this, but I thought I'd share some of my shots.

first two are with the true actinic blues

With all my lights turned on simultaneously

thanks guys, glad you like them. I'll be soon to post pictures of the transition of 18 watts to 54 watts. A nanocustoms lights modification. I'm documenting my first time experience, and customer service I've received.

Mike: as for the candy canes I haven't spot fed them anything, but I'll try and do that, should be neat.

I just bought some of those candy corals. Do they do better on the sand or on a rock? or does it matter?

Sand or rock won't really factor in whether they do well or not. Amount of light and flow are more important. Some seem to like it shadier than others. most will extend their feeding tentacles after the lights go out, some folks target feed them at this point. If they get really happy and get ready to reproduce lots of them will sort of get drippy looking and then sometimes it's good if they've got space for the new growth to drop off.

My candies seem to like strong light over less light but I do believe that it varies by species, etc. I'd start them in the sand and gradually move them up higher in your tank and see how they do.

Yep. The problem with frozen or live adult brine is it's nutritionally worthless. It's like you trying to live on popcorn. It'll fill you up, but you'll still starve to death if that's all you eat.
Mysis, krill, cyclopeeze, finely chopped up silversides are all better food choices.
If nothing else soaking the brine for a little while in selcon will help get a bit more fatty acids to the fish/corals.

I agree. I hatch personally baby brine, and feed that to my tank, mainly sandras since she has a mandy in there. The mandy is so used to it, he'll surface to the top sometimes, when we come home, like "feed me" haha. I've fed the candy canes cyclopeeze, they seemed to love that. I was unaware how they reproduce, but it sounds interesting. I also recently bought a open brain, red outside, with green and red inside. It's not that big, it's a nice addition to the tank. I'd love to give it a silverside, but haven't quite yet, I like to see things gobble things up. :)

Baby brine are a whole other story. They actually are nutritious, but they're a lot of work. Way more than I'm willing to deal with. Two thumbs up for you Steven for being willing to do it.

Thank you incysor. It is actually very very simple. With what I ordered off of brineshrimpdirect.com, I ordered that black dish (brine shrimp hatchery). It's easy. Fill that thing up to the line it shows, add the brine shrimp eggs, around the side. Leave it in a nice warm area, come back in 24 hrs, and they all swim to the center of the dish because of the opening there, they see light and swim towards it. There you have this scoop where you can pull all of the live brine out, you get only that and not the egg shells, they stay on the outside walls. It's soooooo cake!
