Bye bye to camera!

Well. it finally happened yesterday... I dropped my camera into my tank while taking pictures. It was only for a split second but I think it was enough to do it in. I let it dry overnight and it isnt water-logged, so maybe there is some hope. My concern is obviously the saltwater which corrodes metals/electronics quite quickly.

Well I put in the battery today and tried to start it up. It came to life, the screen was working and everything, but then it turns itself off like when the battery is dead.

So, maybe there is hope, but Im not counting on it... oh well, its not like it cost me $350 or anything... oh wait, it did!

Well look on the bright side--at least it didn't break the tank or brain a fish ;-)
The switching-off when powered up sounds like shorting which you would expect with salt in the circuitry. I really don't know what to recommend, perhaps open everything up and put it before at warm fan blower to at least remove the moisture and hope salt did not crystallize in key places.

Tough break....Tell ya what...go to lowes or home depot...buy some acrylic they sell for making picture frames...(sold near windows)...make a box that you can sit into the water sort of like a bowl...use that to get better shots...its a little more safe..

That is if ya have room for a box to scoot around in the tank...works very nice for top down shots..

One of my lfs has a small aquarium they give ya to look into thier tank with, truly is a neat trick...

I would love to upgrade but this is just another expense on top of a $200 traffic ticket, $500 deductible for an accident on the way to Eddy's house, new tires for the other car...

 oh well. I would like to get one by August though because my wife and I re going on vacation and obviously I would love to take pictures.

sounds like you need to spend some time at home and stay safe. that is a tough run of bad luck or...... you're too busy and as a result getting sloppy. Good thing you've got a vacation in the works.

did you try replacing the battery though? should've bought the extended warrantee.

Hey, how's the volunteering thing working out for you at the Aquarium?

Yeah, I need to take some time off. That vacation is much-needed.

The volunteering thing is on the back-burner right now. There is alot of stuff going on right now and they just wanted too much of a commitment. Just wasnt going to be enough time right now unfortunately.
