bummer

My Olympus c-5050 zoom camera stopped working in June. Long story short, the warranty company, (repairtechinc), strung me along for the last 3 months and when I really wouldn't go away they finally came back and said that the problem was from the camera being dropped, so it isn't covered, and they won't fix it.

If anyone happens to see one of these cameras used in a local shop for less than $200, could you send me the info. I'd like to get another one, but I'd like to keep it under the going rate on ebay. I figure it's a long shot, but what the heck. If nothing else I'll just end up waiting another couple months until I finally have enough saved up for a rebel xt.

Sorry to here that B,

I've been wondering why you hadn't posted in a while, your pictures have been among the best I've ever seen, very clear and detailed.

I guess that's why you want another one. Hope you find it. I guess the repair is more than the camera?

Yeah. Repair would run me about $450. Since the model is a couple years old I should be able to find one for around the $200 mark.
I've been saving for a dSLR, but I didn't want to get rid of this one. I've got the underwater housing for it so that I can take with me scuba diving. This just means that $200 or so of my dSLR fund just got ate.

Did you drop the camera or are they full of crap? If they are just trying to get out of paying the warranty, you should take them to small claims court - it would be less expensive for them to just pay for your repair/replacement.

Warranties are like insurance companies...they are great until you need them.

Didn't drop the camera. However the company is in NJ. Somehow I don't think that small claims court across state lines is gonna cost me less than a working used 5050. I could be wrong though.

Probably not. Still, if you know an attorney who wouldnt' charge you, maybe you could have him send a threatening leter. Couldn't hurt.

Heck, maybe you could even start a class action. Or maybe you could just save yourself a lot of time and trouble and take it up the wazoo and just get another camera.

I hate crooks!
