Hey guys I will be documenting the set-up of another 2.5 gallon tank today. I will be setting up another 2.5 for one of my clowns that has been bullied to the point that he has gotten thin and hasent been allowed to eat in the past 2 weeks ..... I will be doing a bare tank for now just cycled water and sand no lr yet (that may change ) I am hoping to find all the stuff I need for a tank or be able to pull a bit out of our 2 tanks that I currently have ........I will be sure to post pictures of the tank as it gets put together , I have ordered the light , and a heater that should all be here by friday I have extra filters here that I will be using ....

here is the table cloth vinyl soaking in water once it is pliable I mist the tank lay it on the back rub it down with damp hands , spray a bit more warm water to keep it from sticking to my hands flip over cut to size flip back one more time , (protect the glass from scratching and use a towel to keep it from catching the glass on counters or any thing else that could scratch) mist with warm water use a squeegie to move air bubbles out work from the center to the edges for best results ..... us a paper towel to dry the back , sides, bottom and the inside ......

next we added the live rock the 1/2 the water volume came from the 7 gallon minibow live rock has been in the pet store for atleast 5- 6 weeks so it is cured ...
we are waiting for the heater and the light they should be here by friday but sadly I could not wait that long to get him out of the tank and in to the new one or he would have been bullied to death I think they may have come from the same brood which is why we have had the squabbles

Well this morning I turned on Fugu's lights and much to my surprise he was swimming and out not hiding like I expected him to . He swam to the top to greet me I wispered that I would feed him a bit later , he went about his business ... He shows no fear at all in his new tank.....We will be letting the tank sit for a period before anything is added (a month or greater) the only addetion will be next week for a cleaner shrimp ......We surmised that what happened between the 2 clowns was that they came from the same blood line or brood ...thus making them incompatable ...... they were bought the same day same tank an hour apart.......Maybe in the future I can see about a buddy but for now that is on hold ...funny thing is is that you do get attached to these little critters....any way thats the update as the tank progresses and the light , and heater get here we will post new updates and pictures ....

It's amazing how well those fish are doing in your last pic......

Isnt it if you count there are like 8 or 9....funny thing is is that they are fresh water and will be going full salt with out acclimation
sadielynn cute Clown.
Thanks Nemo
Hope he does well and get back on his fins
Thanks that is what we are striving for... that is why the tank is so basic to give him hidey holes keep stress down but easier for me to clean

Sadie,

You have a big heart, I'f fugu could talk he would gulp in his bubbles, a big thanks....

Thanks Mike
I try to do what is best for the clown and returning him was not an option so I did a 3rd tank ....I figure We pulled Mr. Wiggles through a poisioning we can pull him through a bulling

My disclaimer is that this was done superfast with cycled water and cured rock.... However if you can not confirm where you buy stuff from that it is not "new" you could be in trouble
Keep in mind that I drained 2 gallons of water (more or less) from the 7gallon And got live rock ....but with that being said there will still be some form of a cycle should not be huge ,and I would not recommend this method to any one ....

Sadie,

When you say they were purchased together but later started fighting, does that mean that you added them together and they got along and then started fighting?

I ask you this because Dragon told me that when he got his pair of ocelleris, they in the beginning didn't fight but then one started attacking the other pretty bad and he really got alarmed.

But after a while he said they became the pair again; I wonder if they were tearing at each others fins or what not, I'll have to ask him.

well they werent a pair persay but they came from the same tank it seems the squabbles got worse as time passed they had been keeping their distance . It wasent the squabbles that concerned me as much as the other not allowing Fugu to eat....they will squabble if they are determining sexes I believe but I felt that this went further than a dominance sex battle it was more of an I am not gonna let you eat , be or stay there , he stayed in the cave for the most part and when fed the other would chase him , I started using a pipette to feed small bursts for him to eat the other would not have it .....after 2 weeks I had had it I couldnt let him be starved by her ....thus the evolution of the second 2.5

I am so glad that things are working out well for little Fugu. It was also a very good idea that you pointed out that this is not the way to set a tank up but that it was an emergency and you did all you could to keep things as stable as possible during the transition.

that is the vinyl table cloth that I was talking about from walmart. The only thing that we are combating at this time is the high temps I hope to solve that with the new lights and a fan if need be .... as of now Fugu is doing much better this evening and better than this am so I still have hope that he will pull through this

When you say high temps, what are they? I use to run ice packs on my 12 gallon cube to bring them down when they got really high like 86 to 87 degrees, this was before I ordered the chiller assist.

Sadie, fish are way more tolerante to higher temps than corals or inverts, I'm not saying keep this unchecked but I'm telling you shouldn't worry too much.

Make sure you get the new light on and if the temps are still high, raise the light on stands, feet. This will allow the heat from the light to dissapate in the air and not transfer to the tank.

The extra fans will work, but they will also give you a lot of evaporation and cause more noise in your home.

our temps are running 81 but I put a fan on it and brought it to 74 degrees the light sits on the tank and not up so ventilation is at a premium hopefully the new light will keep it in check  our 7 gallon runs 75-77degrees usually not much higher or lower tho I have seen it go to 70 a time or 2 but it was very graduial over 6-7 hours
