i have the 12" coralife 38 watt fixture over my 5 gallon. while i was away on vacation one of my bulbs must have burned out, because today when saw it one of the bulbs was off. my LFS doesnt have the replacement bulbs, and its the only one i know of in the area at all..

any ideas where i can find that bulb for a decent price online? hellolights didnt have it.

or... if anyone finds a 70 or 150watt MH system for fairly cheap (less than 150 for everything) id consider that since i may upgrade my system in the future..

You may want to try contacting Lamp Dr. at nano-reef.com. I believe he is still selling complete 70 watt kits (14k MH bulb, socket, reflector, uv glass, pre-wired and ready to go) for $130 shipped. He is also offering 150 watt kits for $185 shipped.

As far as replacing the bulbs you have now, is the fixture you have 36 watts or 38 watts? How many watts is each bulb? If it is the dual 18 watt square pin PC's, then www.drsfostersmith.com sells the 50/50 lamps for $14.99. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/P ... 004+113346

its the dual 18watt... but if i can get a good 70w system with a 14k bulb for 130... im down... ive got a good way to rig it up so i can lower and raise it... and its better placement then my tank is in now... i just have to paint the inside of the cabinet white...

yea ive read your thread... any ideas where i could get a new reflector if the one they send isnt bright enough like you said yours was?

probably wouldnt mind it being not very bright in the begining seeing as my corals are going from 36 watts (now 18 watts) PC to 150 watts MH

yea... i may buy it anyway and use the actinic in the 50/50 to supplement the MH... i just know that eventually i would upgrade to MH for a larger system, so why not do it now if i have the money... so hopefully my 150 is on the way... man thats 30 watts per gallon of MH... lol i think ill start it 2 or 3 feet above the tank and only a couple hours a day.

I would just keep the reflector that comes with the kit... especially because it is a 150 watter above a 5 gallon! The main reason I made my own reflector was the size.
