Bubbling skimmers

I want a new skimmer for my nano that's both incredibly 8) if not totally quiet  and one that doesn't shoot out bubbles. Any suggestions, comments? I heard some good stuff about the remora skimmers. What about the seaclones? Thank you. :?:

seaclones are trash. remoras are good. There's no such thing as a silent skimmer...and shooting out bubbles is the whole point.

I use a Red Sea Prizm deluxe - it's fairly quiet (maybe slightly louder than the HOB powerfilter it replaced)... I don't know how 8) it is, but it fits perfectly on the back of my tank, was reasonably priced (got a deal from a friend who sells drygoods), and i like it.

And as incysor said, the whole point of a skimmer is to shoot out bubbles. It Aerates the water, and the junk sticks to the bubbles which float up and out into the collection cup so you can just throw it away, rather than have it sit in a sponge still in your water-flow...

I have also heard good things about the remoras, and CPR makes a nice Backpack model that will hang on a nano - and from what i've heard CPRs are supposed to be really good.

Just curious, I just purchased a 24G Nano Cube. Does anyone know of a skimmer that will fit in the back. I need one that will work and not have to modify for I am scared to death of doing any modifications.

Without modifying the cube there isn't any skimmers that will work as far as I know. The nanocustoms guys are supposedly trying to figure one out, but so far they haven't come up with anything.

There's a mod you can get on the nanocustoms site that allows the regular filter to more effectively skim the water off the top of the tank. While it's not really a true skimmer, it will help get the waste off the top of the water (where most of the junk in a tank ends up).

Not sure how easy it is to install, so you might want to look into it a little bit and see if that's something you'd be willing to attempt.

You can just put the back portion of a cassette tape case over the grille as well...It creates a surface skimmer....But this is not the same thing as a protein skimmer. There's a ton of info on nano-reef about people doing it. If I had a cube it would be the first mod I'd do.

Yeah - if i were to ever get a nano-cube i'd add that "skimmer" mod, and upgrade the lights right off the bat - but i just bought a regular tank, that way i can add whatever equiptment i want, as long as i can cram it in/on the tank...

Stay away from Jebo if you dont want bubbles entering the tank. The jebo pump has also blown up 3 times for me. Maybe i'm just unlucky.

Strange...My boss has one in his 18g. It's been in there nearly a year, and it works great. He was actually very surprised since it was a $40 skimmer.

Incsyor is right....

So far there is nothing out in market as a true skimmer for the cubes. JBJ has announced that they are in the process of designing one for the cube.

Nanocustoms has also announced that there is going to be a drop in skimmer for the back filtration of the cube.

I've seen one that was built by a diyer and it looked cool but I haven't seen them for sale.

I can't wait for JBJ to release their protein skimmer & chiller for the jbj 6, 12, and 24. Would be nice to have a product that will go through some nice R&D before releasing. I know nanocustoms come out with things such as the chiller, but he has the great concept, but not enough in R&D. It's a shame though because other companies see what he does, and then improves and perfects it.

Mike I know you struggled with that chiller twice from chris (nanocustoms). I'm glad you are very perceptive and was able to do your own modification to make it stay together. Be sure to post up any defects so that people are aware, and also you can post up solutions, since you already own his products.
