my bubble counter for my co2 on my freshwater tank, i just use water. never knew there was a special liquid. dont think it really matters, i never had a problem with using water. i change it weekly. dont really think it would make a difference, besides less evaporation.i have never used it so, someone else might be able to shed more light on the subject.hope this kind of helps. :mrgreen:

Actually it's not for leaks, it's to keep evaporation inside the bubble counter. It also is able to let you see the bubbles moving slower than when they are in just water; this helps to set the counter to a better precision visually.

I didn't want to order it unless I got back good feedback, which I did... I'm be posting some pics when I set up my calcium reactor.
