Blue Carpet Anemone...

Hey Reefers,

I finally did it, I purchased a baby size blue carpet anenome from one of my LFS. I spent $140 dollars on this gorgeous specimen.

He told me that my two black ocelleris will host it; I'm so excited. If they don't he will give me back my money, no questions asked.

I pick him up tommorrow and he told me to just shut off my pumps for about 15 minutes and drop him to a general location that I like; he might stay, he might move.

I can hardly wait, since I have a think sandbed I hope he takes to that and not climb on my rocks but who knows, all I care is that he allow my clowns to host.

I've never seen such a small carpet anenome and I'm just juiced and wanted to share that with all of you.

Well, I was going to invest into a new nano tank but this has placed a hold on that for some time.

I also put a deposit on a awesome red coco worm for only 35 dollars, man it's really beautiful.

You guys will see my two new editions hopefully by the end of the week.

Nuff said,

Mike G

P.S
Does anyone have any experience with carpet anemones they'd like to share?

I have no experience with these things, but they are my ultimate favorite anemone. Most every time i see them in tanks, they are on the sandbed propped up against the LR. REALLY looking forward to seeing pics. congrats!

I have had a couple of the Atlantic variety, but I am guessing this one is a pacific variety. One thing I noticed is that they are much more sticky to the touch than normal anemone and will leave a slight rash or burn if they touch the more tender skin of the arm. It is hit or miss on clowns hosting with the Atlantic ones.....

By the sounds of the color I am guessing that it is going to be, just breath taking......can't wait for pics.....

Very cool Mike! When I was at the LFS last week, they had just gotten in a beautiful neon green one that was about 7" across. The owner's son ended up taking it home and putting it into his 90 reef. Carpet's are so beautiful. Good luck with it, can't wait to see some pics.

Thanks all,

For the encouragement on my new son. I will name him blue. When blue gets home he will get his first photos, I hope he comes out as nice as he looks.

Sugar, you are right about having these guys leave as soon as they arrive, the smaller ones don't stay more than a couple of days.

I sure am happy I got mine when I did.... Lunch breaks are fun..... You get first dibs on corals and critters...

I am at a loss for words, they are both absolutely gorgeous.

As good as the tank looks in the pics I think it is probably even better in person, your tank is a work of art my friend.

Thanks Guys,

I learned that I have the Haddoni's carpet anenome which in the wild doesn't host Ocelleris clowns; I was at a loss when I learned these facts.

My LFS thought he had the Gigantea carpet which does host my brothers clowns. My particular anemone will host the Clarki or the Saddleback clowns in the wild; both of which I've had in the past.

I have also learned that Dragons black ocelleris and almost all other black variants are captive bred and really don't know how to host any anemone other than it becomming a learned behavior in the tank.

If all things go as I'm reading them, I should hope to see my brothers clowns host my anemone in the near future; a lot of rules change in our captive homes with reeftanks so it's a whole new learning experience.

I hope to see him take to the anemone soon maybe 1 to 2 months more...
