Hi!I'm new to the world of nano tanks, and would like some help on choosing some fish.i have just bought a 11 gallon tank and plan to fill it with 5kg of live rock with a 1 inch sand bed,2 sexy shrimps, turbo snails and red legged hermet crabs, coral wise i'm not to sure what i will go for yet, probably mostly soft corals. In the fish department i would like a goby and blenny, but don't know what species to go for.Has anyone out there got any ideas?

i recommend the yasha hase goby and randalli pistol shrimp for the nano. the yasha is easy to feed and it's fun to watch him interact with his shrimp. you need a good layer of sand for them to dig into and some rocks for them to hide in

I have a Randalli in with my sexy shrimp and have had no problems at all. The pistol doesn't go far from his burrow and the sexies mainly hang around perched on some coral. Another goby to consider would be the hi finned red banded goby (Stonogobiops xanthorhinica) which also pairs up with the randalls pistol shrimp (alpheus randalli). Good luck with whatever you decide. Skip

One thing I would suggest is to wait for a month or two, before adding the fish. I like to let a new tank settle in a bit before adding anything that will increase the bio load too fast.

I know gobies are small and don't add too much on their own, but with a new tank we sometimes feel the need to spoil our new friends and in turn, foul the water with too much food.

This is just a thought and I hope you don't take it any other way then me, trying to help.

have heard the same thing......i have had a couple different gobies and jawfish, with an open top tank. never had anything in there to disturb them, and i have never had any jumpers. i might have just been lucky though. alot of ppl are putting the lighting crate on the top so its still open but nothing can jump out. putting a glass top on the tank may result in a heat problem. good luck and hope this helps

i've never read anyhing about them jumping..hmm.....mine sticks to the bottom of the tank most of the time and doesn't move to far away from it's little cave where him and his pistol shrimp live in.

if you do decide to get one, get one with a pistol shrimp and i would suggest acclimating him with a pistol shrimp in the same acclimationg bowl or bucket before you put him in your tank, that should be able to calm him down and not make him jumpy.
