Sounds good! I contemplated the black sand idea... might even do it some day, we'll see. As long as you have adequate flow down near the sand bed, you should be good to go. Otherwise, it's nothing that a turkey baster cant take care of!

The only issue that I have with the black sand is that it's usually not aggregate. Meaning that the sand won't act as a pH buffer. You will just have to watch the pH closer in your tank than if it were aggregate sand.

I would like to see some pics of tanks with black sand...Can't think of any I have seen set up like that. I have a friend who has 100g reef and put a small bag of indego in with his white sand. It looked good with the contrast of black and white mixed.

The only down side to dark sand I hear is that it shows debris much more clearly. Melev's site has some pictures of his little seahorse tank if you want to see what one looks like. I'm guessing a power head near the sand can help keep detris in the water column and off the sand, but it's just a guess.

where can I see that site at????????????? would like to check it out myself
black sand sounds like it would be cool to see :?: though besides being more to maintain are their any real drawbacks to having black sand

Tropic Isle Tahitian Moon Sand is what i am using in my 30 gallon now i am new to the whole thing but it just dosent look as clean as white and alot of junk ends up being really visible on it but then again i dont have a gobby in there yet

Seems that Marc has moved Casper (the seahorse) to a barebottom tank... Do a google search for "melev's reef" and you will find his site.
