Ive heard of people wanting to set these up as reef, is that what you mean? if so, the main problem would be lighting them, IMO. Also, there is virtually no surface area for O2 exchange. wonder what the others think.

yes...i thought lighting....maybe the substrate would have to go too....powerheads added....like you say the oxygen exchange would be poor......etc etc......any other alterations??

Lighting will be a problem. The internal filter is a joke and will be totally useless for saltwater, and there's no good way to add a filter so, probably 30% water changes weekly. Powerheads are going to be tricky to add to a curved surface. Even if they stick they'll need to be towards the bottom of the tank so that they aren't pointed at the sandbed, or you'll have to go BB. All in all I just decided that they look neat, but aren't suitable for saltwater, or anything much more complicated than a beta bowl.

The only way I see that one MAY work would be if thew bottom could be drilled. That way you could use a sump for o2 exchange and have the return lines replace the need for powerheads. IMO it would be pretty costly and unless you just wanted to do it, just too big of a project to be worth the effort. JMO, Skip
