Bicolor Blenny picking my Crocea Clam

HI,

Reefers well i was wondering is thats normal or is something that the blennies do or clams are not safe when blennies are presented???

Cause i was noticing that my clam was not opening as always and first i thought it was the light (dont worry im updating to MH this week) so i tarjet feed with phytoplankton and it open alittle more and i was noticing that some parts are missing like somebody bite the mantle and the only one that i've seen picking on it when mantle expands is the bicolor blenny...

So what should i do get rid of clam or just place it on the bottom of the tank to see if he doesnt pick on it being in the bottom were he is never at??? or is not really the bicolor is the lack of light and needs the MH ASAP.??

please help.....

i would say your new blenny is a nipper - although not a rule it does happen - i have read reports of them nipping corals as well although again it is not that common, as most are safe. changing the clams location may help to alleviate the problem but i doubt it will cure it and being that your tank is kinda low light for a clam - placing it on the bottom may not be good for it... you may be forced to remove one or the other

Lennie my Bicolor Blenny

Lennie picks at a lot of things, mainly picking little minute bits of algae off. Perhaps he's picking just below the mantle or something?

They are cute little buggars with lots of personality. I hope he stops that, cause they are a neat little fish to have.

Well J&D like i mentioned before i know i have low light for the clam and well im upgrading to MH no later than friday..but anyways i kept a close eye on the clam yesterday and it was ok and started to open fully when bit@# bicolor pick on its mantle and then the clam didnt open till this morning and same store clam open and blenny attack clam no opening! :fu

So like mentioned before i think im gonna have to get rid of clam/blenny and its easier to take the clam out and well i like more the blenny too so im guessing the clam is going to Jesse's tank!

but still devating if bottom with MH or Bye to Jesses tank! will see

You can try to feed the blenny a bit more and see if you can keep his tummy full enough so he won't be interested in the clam, you need to be careful that he eats all the food put in the tank so you don't start having a nitrate problem though.

Today, when I was installing Eddie's new lighting, I took the T. Crocea home with me :)

I will post pics tomorrow... Thank you Eddie so much... sorry you had to get rid of it. It is tough sometimes picking which tankmate to get rid of and which one to keep. If things change someday, it is all yours to take back.

Im going with skipm, maybe you should try feeding the blenny a bit more. i just love the clams and I think they look very very nice in a tank. Is better to try everything before leading to a conclusion.

Moorish,

This clam has been living happily in my tank for a little over a month now. He is with my other crocea and my baby maxima...

Here is a pic of him as of about 4 weeks ago...

And all three together also taken about 4 weeks ago...
