Hey guys...
My name is Rod and I am a total beginner when it comes to saltwater tanks... I have been reading the posts on this site and some others and learned that the best way to start a SW tank is to read, read and read...and read some more. I am quite experienced with FW tanks, and understand the absolute difference between sw and fw... salt : ))
I recently decided to start studying about saltwater and its implications and decided to take upon the challenge of starting a nanotank...I know many of you will tell me that the best way to go is large but for room constraints I am williing to exhaust all the research before and them go with a very tiny tank...something like a 3 or 5 gallon...
My question is: What books should look for for not only saltwater keeping but for very small saltwater tanks...
Thanks for the feedback!!

Hey Rod and welcome to Nanotank.com! Good idea to research and read up before diving into the world of nanos. I would have to agree in that there really isn't a nano-specific bible to go by for beginners. I just picked up CORAL magazine's #2 issue which is focuses on nano tanks. Haven't had time to really read it yet but it looks pretty good.

I believe that sites such as this one really help and can provide a good basis on what works and what doesn't in the real world. Read through the posts here and search the web as much as you can. Research is the key. Enjoy!

For several months before I started my tanks, (not nanos), I spent a lot of time online, and kept an eye out at the used book stores. Most of the good information I found was online. I did find several books that were useful, but only in a limited sense. I found a few that were decent for coral or fish identification, but they generally didn't have a lot of info on what types of food, or water conditions they'd need in a home aquarium.
Generally I found that each different book would have one or two helpful chapters, but that I most of it wasn't helpful. I haven't found any that were nano-specific, or even that had a chapter or two that were nano-specific. Online on the other hand I found tons of information, on most any area of the hobby that I needed help on. If I couldn't find something after doing a search through 5-6 different boards I'd finally ask a question. I generally would get a few replies and/or get directed to a decent source of info on my specific area. I'll try to take a look at the books I've got at home and make a quick list.

Sorry it took me awhile to get back with this list, busy, busy, busy, around here. I'm still trying to finish getting everything unpacked from the move. This is a mostly-complete list of the books I've got. I know there are at least a few others, but they must still be in one of the 7 or so unopened boxes of books. Hope this gives you some ideas.
