Beware of hackers...

A seahorse forum that I frequent regularly got hacked the other night. Almost all of the posts and topics are wiped out. :( The admins are trying to recover it, but I don't know if they'll be able to. It's very sad. So much knowledge sharing might be gone... :(

I hope they are able to restore it, but I don't know at this point...

That's so unfortunate. I can't believe people sit around and think up ways to damage things and hurt other people. They are such losers!

If this is the same seahorse board that I occasionally visit it has happened before. I personally don't see much enjoyment about breaking into a bulletin board just to mess it up. There is no financial gain or anything so whats the reasoning behind such vandalism? Some people are such losers!

Older versions of phpBB (which this and many other sites use to power their forums) has a couple of back doors. If the sites would upgrade to the newer versions, they should be able to solve this problem for now anyway.

This site has been hacked once. My host was able to recover from a few days back (only lost 2 days of posts) but it was a pain in the butt to get everything setup again.

Yeah, those sites must keep their version of phpBB up to date which I do religiously now. I helps to keep hackers out.

What a shame...

the network at my work got hacked. We found out who did it luckly and they didnt do much. When i asked the guy why he said he just wanted to see what all we had. this same guy hacked a local bank called and told them he did it and that they should hire him to help keep others out. what an idiot.

I am so sad. The lame brain idiot who hacked seahorses . org completely trashed the site, deleted all of the forums and created his own one forum in praise of himself, and he sent out an e-mail from the "admin" of the forum to all the users of the forum, saying:

Your unhealthy addiction to false friends and untrue enemies has no meaning for you, as it as always had in the world. The admins at seahorse . org have been trying for days to wrestle control back from the hacker, but he keeps getting the control back from them again and deleting everything. The deleted all of the forums and all of the topcs. And he's really vile and hateful. It's so sad to think there are actually people out there who get off on doing viscious things like this.

The admin has now installed new software to run the forum and is in the process of restoring a previous backup. The admin's in the UK, and he was up all night working on this. I don't think he's had much sleep in the past three days. Forum ADMINS are heroes!! :)
